At the peak of his career, Kambli was a rising star in Indian cricket, amassing a net worth of ₹12-13 crore thanks to his cricketing successes, endorsements, and personal investments.

Vinod Kambli, once one of the most promising young cricketers India had ever produced, is now navigating a difficult chapter in his life, both personally and financially. Kambli, who was known for his explosive performances during his early years in international cricket, especially his famous partnership with Sachin Tendulkar, has experienced a dramatic fall from grace. His rise to fame in the 1990s came with a lavish lifestyle, but today, Kambli finds himself grappling with financial struggles and a life much different from his earlier years.

At the peak of his career, Kambli was a rising star in Indian cricket, amassing a net worth of ₹12-13 crore thanks to his cricketing successes, endorsements, and personal investments. However, after his retirement from the game, his financial situation has taken a downturn. Kambli has been vocal about his challenges in recent years, revealing that he now survives on a modest ₹30,000 monthly pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This pension is his primary source of income, and he has spoken openly about how it helps him support his family.

In a viral video posted recently, Kambli was seen with his childhood friend and cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, attending an event in Mumbai to commemorate their late mentor Ramakant Achrekar's birth anniversary. In the video, Kambli appeared frail, reflecting the toll that his personal and financial struggles have taken on him over the years.

During a candid interview with Mid-Day in 2022, Kambli shared the hardships he has faced since retirement. He revealed that despite his once-prominent cricketing career, he now finds himself in a position where he is entirely dependent on the pension provided by the BCCI. "I am a retired cricketer, completely dependent on the BCCI pension. My only income is from the Board, which helps support my family," Kambli had said in the interview, reflecting on how far his fortunes had changed.

Despite these struggles, Kambli remains passionate about cricket and has expressed a desire to continue contributing to the sport, especially by working with young cricketers. He mentioned that he wanted to be involved in assignments where he could work with the next generation of cricketers, something that remained close to his heart. "I need assignments where I can work with youngsters," Kambli had said.

However, Kambli's financial situation took a turn when he was offered a ₹1 lakh per month job in the finance division of Sahyadri Industry Group by Maharashtra businessman Sandeep Thorat. This offer, while lucrative, was not related to cricket, and Kambli turned it down, citing his unwavering passion for the sport. “I want to work in cricket. That’s my passion,” Kambli explained, clearly expressing that his heart lies in the game, and any role outside of it wouldn’t fulfill him.

Kambli’s association with the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy in Nerul, Mumbai, was a brief attempt to stay connected to the sport, where he worked as a coach for young cricketers. However, the daily commute from his residence in Bandra West to the academy in Nerul became exhausting, forcing him to step back. "I used to wake up at 5 am, take a cab to DY Patil Stadium, and coach at BKC in the evening. It was exhausting," he admitted. Despite these challenges, Kambli’s desire to remain connected to cricket continues to drive him.

Kambli’s story is one of immense highs and heartbreaking lows. His early promise and explosive career were cut short, and he now faces the difficult reality of living on a modest pension, far removed from the spotlight that once shone so brightly on him. However, through his openness about his financial struggles and his passion for cricket, Kambli continues to inspire many. His journey is a reminder that the path to success in sports is often uncertain, and even the most talented players face challenges once their playing days are over.

As Kambli continues to navigate life after cricket, his story is a testament to the importance of financial planning, career management, and the unpredictable nature of life in the limelight. Yet, despite his struggles, he remains steadfast in his love for the game and continues to strive for a role that allows him to stay connected to the sport he once ruled.

Despite these struggles, Kambli remains passionate about cricket and has expressed a desire to continue contributing to the sport, especially by working with young cricketers.
