Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag recently stirred controversy on social media with a tweet criticizing the Modi government's claims about the robustness of PSU banks, only to delete it shortly after.

Sehwag's tweet was a response to a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had lauded the strength of PSU banks and encouraged investment in them. Modi's endorsement, along with support from other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, led to a significant increase in investments in these banks leading up to the 2024 election.

However, Sehwag highlighted a disconnect between these promises and reality. He pointed out that despite investing in three out of the four PSU banks mentioned by BJP officials, one of his staff had not seen any returns on their investments. This discrepancy prompted Sehwag to question the effectiveness of the government's assurances.

Following the tweet, Sehwag quickly deleted it, which triggered a wave of criticism from netizens. Many accused him of being 'darpok' (coward) for retracting his statement, arguing that he should have stood by his criticism if he truly believed it.

The incident has sparked a broader discussion about the reliability of government promises and the impact of such public endorsements on individual investments.
