Andre Gray's double secured a thrilling 2-2 draw for Plymouth Argyle against Watford on Friday night, a result that could prove vital for Wayne Rooney’s side as they fight to stay in the Championship. Gray's second goal came deep into injury time, curling a shot past Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann to earn Plymouth a hard-fought point.

The match got off to a fast start, with Watford taking the lead just eight minutes in. The Hornets' Ivorian striker Vakoun Bayo found the back of the net after Yasser Larouci’s cross into the box. Despite the early setback, Plymouth Argyle quickly regrouped, and in the 23rd minute, they were back on level terms. A long ball from Lewis Gibson found Gray, who took a superb volley to score the equalizer.

However, Watford regained their lead before halftime. In the 37th minute, Imran Louza’s free-kick was met by Mattie Pollock, whose header was then expertly finished by Ryan Porteous to give Watford a 2-1 advantage heading into the break.

As the game progressed, Plymouth Argyle found themselves struggling to break down Watford’s defense, with the visitors looking comfortable in their lead. But as the final whistle drew closer, Andre Gray struck again in the dying moments of the match. Receiving the ball at the edge of the box, Gray fired a powerful shot past Bachmann to score his second goal of the game, securing a vital point for Plymouth.

Gray's brace was a reflection of Plymouth’s remarkable ability to score late goals this season. It was their fifth stoppage-time goal in just six home games, showing their never-say-die attitude. Since joining the club as a free agent last month, Gray has been a key figure, scoring three goals in just his second start for Plymouth.

Watford, currently fifth in the Championship standings, will be disappointed to have dropped two points. Despite dominating the match, particularly in terms of expected goals (xG), with a total of 2.17 compared to Plymouth’s 0.42, Watford was unable to finish off the game. Tom Cleverley’s side had numerous chances, but poor finishing and a lack of composure in key moments cost them the victory.

The result leaves Plymouth Argyle sitting 17th in the table with 17 points from 16 matches, while Watford trails league leaders Sunderland by five points. Plymouth's late resilience will give them confidence as they continue their battle against relegation, while Watford will be left to reflect on a missed opportunity to move closer to the top of the Championship standings.

Gray's second goal came deep into injury time, curling a shot past Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann to earn Plymouth a hard-fought point.
