The match against Fernandez saw both players hold serve early on, but Gauff broke through at 3-3 in the first set, converting the second of two back-to-back break points.

Coco Gauff continued her impressive run at the 2025 Australian Open by breezing into the fourth round with a straight-sets victory over Leylah Fernandez, winning 6-4, 6-1 in just 76 minutes. Gauff, who was a semi-finalist at Melbourne Park in 2024, has been in scintillating form throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten and yet to drop a set.

The match against Fernandez saw both players hold serve early on, but Gauff broke through at 3-3 in the first set, converting the second of two back-to-back break points. Despite Fernandez's best efforts to hold her serve at 5-3, Gauff stayed patient and eventually sealed the first set. Gauff's focus remained sharp in the second set, as she quickly broke Fernandez's serve to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Although Fernandez managed to break back to make it 3-1, Gauff was undeterred, responding immediately with another break to extend her lead. With her powerful hitting and steady service games, Gauff wrapped up the match with ease.

Gauff's victory marks another milestone in her career, as she becomes the first player since Iga Swiatek (2020-2022) to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open women’s singles for three consecutive years before turning 21. She is also the fifth female player in the Open Era to win their first eight matches of the season for three straight years, joining tennis legends such as Margaret Court, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, and Serena Williams.

Looking ahead, Gauff is poised to face Belinda Bencic in the fourth round, a matchup that promises to be exciting given both players’ current form. Gauff’s commanding performance in Melbourne has firmly established her as one of the leading contenders for the title this year. As she continues to impress on the court, fans are eagerly anticipating how far the young American will go in the tournament.
