Instead of traveling with the team, Macario will remain in London to work closely with Chelsea’s coaching and fitness staff, aiming to enhance her conditioning and readiness for future matches.

Chelsea's manager, Sonia Bompastor, provided insights into Catarina Macario's absence from the squad for their upcoming Champions League match against FC Twente. Despite playing a crucial role in Chelsea's recent 2-1 victory over Arsenal, Macario was notably absent from the 22-player squad announced for the Champions League fixture. The Brazilian forward, who joined Chelsea from Lyon last year, has been making strides in her recovery from an ACL injury, scoring twice in ten appearances since her return to action.

Bompastor explained that Macario's omission from the squad is part of a strategic plan focused on her development and fitness. “Catarina is someone we are building minutes for and focusing on her fitness,” said Bompastor. “This decision is part of the overall plan and her individual process.” The manager emphasized the importance of tailored training programs designed to help players reach their peak performance levels while ensuring they are not rushed back into competitive play too soon.

Instead of traveling with the team, Macario will remain in London to work closely with Chelsea’s coaching and fitness staff, aiming to enhance her conditioning and readiness for future matches. This approach reflects Chelsea's commitment to player management under Bompastor, who has led the team to an impressive four consecutive victories since taking the reins at the start of the season.

As Chelsea prepares to face Twente, who also secured a win in their opening Champions League match, Bompastor highlighted the versatility of key player Lauren James. "LJ can play in different positions," she noted, emphasizing James’ adaptability during matches. Whether playing centrally, wide, or even as a false forward, James has demonstrated her ability to influence games through scoring, assisting, and creating opportunities. Bompastor praised James' impact, stating, “She is unbelievable when she can make an impact higher up the pitch.” This versatility is a crucial element in Chelsea's tactical setup, allowing the team to adjust strategies in real-time based on the flow of the game.

Bompastor also provided an update on Sam Kerr, who is currently recovering from a ruptured ACL sustained in January. “Sam is doing well,” Bompastor shared, highlighting that although Kerr is not participating in training sessions yet, she remains mentally strong and continues to contribute positively to the team environment. Kerr’s presence, even in her absence from collective training, provides a source of motivation and encouragement for her teammates, showcasing her leadership qualities.

As Chelsea gears up for their next Champions League fixture against Twente, the team is focused on maintaining their winning momentum. With a strategic approach to player management and the tactical flexibility demonstrated by players like Lauren James, Chelsea aims to continue their successful run under Bompastor’s guidance. The clash against Twente promises to be a competitive match, and Chelsea will be looking to leverage their strengths while adapting to the challenges presented by their opponents.
