Stephen Curry delivered a stellar performance, scoring 37 points and leading the Golden State Warriors to a 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in an NBA Cup match. Curry was instrumental in the win, scoring the Warriors' final 12 points, including five three-pointers. His shooting was on fire as he made 14 of 27 shots, adding nine assists and six rebounds. Curry’s clutch scoring in the closing minutes, along with his pivotal role in a strong third-quarter run, helped Golden State secure the win.
The game was also marked by the emotional return of Klay Thompson to Chase Center, but this time as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. Thompson, who joined Dallas in July, had a strong showing with 22 points, including a three-pointer that gave the Mavericks a 110-105 lead. Before the game began, Thompson shared an embrace with his longtime teammate Curry, highlighting the special bond between the two stars. Despite his strong performance, Thompson couldn’t hold off Curry’s brilliance in the final moments.
Luka Dončić was another standout for the Mavericks, contributing 31 points, eight rebounds, and six assists after recovering from a groin injury. Despite Dončić’s impressive stat line, the Mavericks struggled with turnovers, committing 18 throughout the game, which led to 21 points for the Warriors. Dallas also missed the presence of Kyrie Irving, who was unavailable for the game due to injury.
Golden State benefitted from a well-rounded effort, with Jonathan Kuminga contributing 16 points and Buddy Hield adding 14. The Warriors also honored Klay Thompson’s tradition of boating to games by gifting fans captain hats. Meanwhile, Dereck Lively II played through a shoulder injury for Dallas, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.
In other NBA Cup action, the New York Knicks triumphed over the Philadelphia 76ers with a 111-99 win. OG Anunoby was the standout for the Knicks, leading with 24 points. Joel Embiid, making his season debut after winning gold with Team USA at the Paris Olympics, struggled with only 13 points on poor shooting and three rebounds. Paul George had a strong outing for Philadelphia, scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. However, it was Josh Hart who made a significant impact for New York, recording a triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Knicks, while Jalen Brunson chipped in 18 points despite shooting difficulties.
Both games in the NBA Cup showcased thrilling performances, with Curry’s brilliance leading the Warriors to victory and Anunoby’s leadership helping the Knicks secure their win.
