Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello has issued a pointed warning to Kylian Mbappé, highlighting the importance of adhering to the club’s rigorous work ethic. Mbappé, who completed a high-profile free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to Real Madrid over the summer, has been the subject of considerable attention and scrutiny since his arrival, especially given the protracted nature of the transfer saga.
Initially, the French superstar struggled to make an impact on the pitch, which raised concerns among fans and analysts. However, he has recently found his form, scoring six goals in his last eight appearances. Despite this positive trend, injuries have plagued his fitness, leading to his absence from key matches, including a notable exclusion from France’s UEFA Nations League squad, as announced by manager Didier Deschamps.
Throughout his career, Mbappé has faced criticism for his perceived attitude and demands for special treatment, prompting questions about his professionalism off the field. One notable incident that intensified these discussions involved Mbappé being spotted at a nightclub shortly before France’s match against Belgium, which he ultimately chose not to play in. This incident fueled ongoing debates about his commitment to the sport and the expectations that come with being a high-profile player.
Capello, a highly respected figure in football and a two-time La Liga-winning manager with Real Madrid, has weighed in on Mbappé’s situation, drawing from his extensive experience with the club's culture and expectations. In an interview with TMW, Capello emphasized that no player, regardless of their star status, is above the hard work required at Real Madrid. “When a big star goes to Real Madrid, he must understand that he has to work like any other player. At Real Madrid, there are not just one star, but many,” Capello stated.
Despite expressing concerns about the potential challenges Mbappé may face at the club, Capello remains confident in the ability of current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti to handle the situation effectively. Known for his adeptness in managing big personalities within the squad, Ancelotti is expected to navigate any potential issues related to Mbappé’s performance and behavior. “I think Carlo Ancelotti needs time, but he knows a lot of things. Soon, Carlo will find the right balance to achieve victories,” Capello added, indicating his faith in Ancelotti’s leadership.
As Real Madrid prepares to return to action following the international break, they will face Celta Vigo in La Liga on October 19. Expectations are high that Mbappé will be fit and available for selection, and fans are eager to see if he can maintain his recent scoring form while embracing the club's culture of hard work and commitment. The upcoming match will not only be a test for Mbappé but also an opportunity for him to reaffirm his dedication to one of the most storied clubs in football history. With Capello’s words echoing in the background, all eyes will be on Mbappé as he navigates this new chapter in his career.
