Jeremy Manzorro, Mumbai City FC’s newest midfield addition, is determined to lead the Islanders to glory in the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The 32-year-old Frenchman, who made the move from Jamshedpur FC, brings with him a wealth of experience from various European leagues, including his time in prestigious competitions like the UEFA Europa League. Despite a tough start for Mumbai City this season, Manzorro remains confident in the team’s potential and is focused on helping the club achieve silverware.
Manzorro’s transition to Mumbai City began when the club’s management reached out to him as he approached the end of his contract with Jamshedpur. After a series of productive discussions in the off-season, he committed to a two-year deal with Mumbai City. He quickly integrated into the team and embraced the vision set forth by head coach Petr Kratky.
What particularly stood out to Manzorro was Kratky’s inclusive leadership approach. "Petr took the time to understand every individual," Manzorro shared, emphasizing the coach’s transparency and interest in the growth of each player. "It makes us want to work harder for him and the team." This personal touch was a major factor in his decision to sign with Mumbai City, and it has helped foster a sense of unity within the squad.
While Mumbai City's season has started on a rocky note, with only two wins, four draws, and a loss in their first seven games, Manzorro remains optimistic. He believes that early struggles can build resilience and lead to greater success in the long run. "When you overcome setbacks, it makes you stronger," he said. "Winning after such a start brings us closer, and the team morale is higher now." This determination to rise above challenges is a quality that Manzorro looks to bring to the squad, helping them stay focused on the bigger picture.
A standout feature of Manzorro’s game is his remarkable free-kick ability. Last season, he scored three stunning free-kicks, including a dramatic 97th-minute winner against East Bengal FC, which left Indian football fans in awe. Reflecting on his skill, Manzorro credited years of dedication and hard work. "There’s no secret to it – it’s all about hard work," he said. "I’ve trained for years on my technique, and seeing it pay off last season was incredibly rewarding."
Looking ahead, Manzorro has set ambitious goals for himself. "If I can score one [free-kick] per game, it would be perfect," he admitted. "But as everyone knows, that’s not always possible, so I will try my best to help the team in whatever way I can with free kicks." Beyond free-kicks, Manzorro is eager to contribute to the team’s success in any capacity, whether through key passes, dynamic runs, or simply by giving his best on the field. "The most important thing is taking three points every game," he added, underscoring his commitment to the team’s overall success.
Manzorro’s football journey has taken him across multiple countries, including France, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Kazakhstan. Throughout his career, he has gained invaluable experience, playing in top-tier leagues and international competitions. Notably, he won two league titles during his time in Kazakhstan. Now, as he adapts to the competitive and growing football scene in India, Manzorro is eager to make a lasting impact with Mumbai City FC.
"My goal is to stay healthy and play as many games as possible this season," Manzorro stated. "Whether it’s through free kicks, passing, or just giving my all on the field, I want to help us collect three points in every match." With his experience, skill, and unwavering determination, Manzorro is focused on helping Mumbai City achieve their goals and lift a trophy this season. As the team faces challenges and opportunities in the coming months, Manzorro’s leadership and contribution will be crucial to their quest for success in the ISL.
