His performance was a stark contrast to teammate Max Verstappen's dominant form, as Perez trailed Verstappen by a significant margin of 285 points.

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing's team principal, has indicated that Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda could be potential candidates to replace Sergio Perez if the team decides to part ways with the Mexican driver. Despite a promising start to the 2024 season, Perez's form has faltered in the latter half, and this has raised questions about his future with the team.

Perez, who extended his contract for two years after his strong performances at the start of the 2024 campaign, struggled to maintain consistent results throughout the year. In the final 18 races, he scored just 49 points and finished the season eighth in the World Drivers' Championship. His performance was a stark contrast to teammate Max Verstappen's dominant form, as Perez trailed Verstappen by a significant margin of 285 points. This inconsistency has been concerning for Red Bull, especially as the team, despite being the dominant force in Formula 1, lost the World Constructors' Championship to McLaren for the first time in several seasons.

Given the competitive nature of F1, where teams require two strong drivers to consistently score points and secure the Constructors' Championship, Horner has suggested that Red Bull may need to make changes to their driver lineup. He emphasized that discussions with Perez will happen soon, with the focus on reviewing what went wrong in the 2024 season and evaluating the way forward.

Horner also acknowledged Perez's valuable contributions to Red Bull's success in recent years, including helping the team win back-to-back Constructors' Championships in 2022 and 2023, as well as securing five race wins. However, the team’s competitiveness in 2025 and beyond hinges on having two drivers who can consistently perform at a high level without a significant gap in performance. This is where both Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda come into consideration.

Liam Lawson, who has stepped in as a reserve driver for Red Bull, impressed during his outings with AlphaTauri, showcasing his talent in difficult circumstances. Horner noted that Lawson's race pace and overall performance under challenging conditions have earned him praise, and he could be a potential candidate for a full-time seat in the future. Tsunoda, too, has been performing well with AlphaTauri, and Horner pointed out that his experience could make him a strong contender for a Red Bull seat if Perez's performance continues to be inconsistent.

The competition for seats in F1 for the 2025 season is expected to be fierce, with Ferrari and McLaren both having strong driver line-ups, while Mercedes will be introducing an inexperienced driver. Red Bull's primary objective will be to ensure that their lineup remains competitive, and that both drivers are capable of challenging for podiums and victories, especially with Verstappen's ongoing dominance. Horner’s comments reflect the team's focus on maintaining balance and depth in their driver lineup, ensuring that both drivers are capable of competing at the highest level.

As the season comes to a close, Red Bull will likely have detailed discussions about their future strategy, weighing the options between retaining Perez or bringing in new blood. While Perez’s future remains uncertain, the team’s decision will be critical in shaping their prospects for 2025 and beyond.
