Poland's quest for a spot in the Nations League quarter-finals remains intact following a thrilling 3-3 draw against Croatia, despite the visitors finishing the match with ten players. The result was significant for Michal Probierz's side, who must now secure victories in their remaining two matches in November to have a chance at finishing in the top two of Group A3.

The match kicked off with Poland taking an early lead in the fifth minute. Piotr Zielinski's shot deflected off Martin Erlic, wrong-footing Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic. However, Croatia responded quickly, equalizing shortly after through Borna Sosa. The visitors then stunned the home crowd at Stadion Narodowy with two goals in quick succession. Petar Sucic found the far corner to put Croatia ahead, and he later assisted Martin Baturina, who scored his first senior international goal.

As halftime approached, Poland's Nicola Zalewski capitalized on poor Croatian defending to reduce the deficit, giving his team a glimmer of hope going into the break. The second half saw the introduction of Robert Lewandowski, who had a significant impact on the game. Just six minutes after entering the fray, Lewandowski set up Sebastian Szymanski, who curled a brilliant shot past Livakovic to level the scores at 3-3.

Despite being unable to take full advantage of Livakovic's dismissal—he was substituted after a red card—Poland managed to end a three-match losing streak against Croatia, with their last victory over them dating back to 2006. However, the hosts struggled to test substitute goalkeeper Nediljko Labrovic effectively, and Kacper Urbanski had Poland’s best late attempts, both of which missed the target.

In terms of statistics, Poland recorded an expected goals (xG) total of 1.25 from 14 shots compared to Croatia’s 1.39 from 15 attempts. Szymanski emerged as a standout player, creating more chances than any other individual on the pitch, showcasing his potential to be a key figure for Poland in the upcoming fixtures.

The draw leaves Poland needing strong performances in their last two group matches to progress further in the competition. Conversely, Croatia missed a crucial opportunity to close the gap on Group A3 leaders Portugal, who previously played to a scoreless draw against Scotland. As both teams look ahead, the stakes are high, making the upcoming matches even more crucial for their ambitions in the Nations League.
