He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.” In addition to the coaching departures, former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher remains in his role within the coaching team, continuing to serve as an important link between the first team and the academy.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has officially left Manchester United following the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club’s new head coach. The former United striker, who had returned to the club in July 2024 on a two-year deal to serve as Erik ten Hag’s assistant, was thrust into a temporary managerial role after Ten Hag’s dismissal last month. Van Nistelrooy’s brief spell in charge saw some positive results, including victories against Leicester City in the EFL Cup and PAOK in the Europa League. Under his guidance, the team also earned a 1-1 draw with Chelsea and ended his tenure with a dominant 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League.

Despite these promising performances, the appointment of Ruben Amorim marked a new chapter for Manchester United. Amorim, who officially began his tenure as head coach on Monday, chose not to retain Van Nistelrooy as part of his coaching staff. This decision also led to the departure of several other staff members who worked under Van Nistelrooy, including assistant coach Rene Hake, goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and analyst Pieter Morel.

The club has expressed gratitude to Van Nistelrooy, acknowledging his contributions and stating in a formal statement, “Ruud is and always will be a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

In addition to the coaching departures, former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher remains in his role within the coaching team, continuing to serve as an important link between the first team and the academy. Fletcher's presence remains vital as the club navigates this period of transition under Amorim's leadership.

This restructuring is part of a broader strategic shift aimed at building a more competitive Manchester United, both domestically and internationally. The club is looking to enhance its performances across all competitions, with Amorim tasked with leading the team toward sustained success. The decision not to retain Van Nistelrooy is a reflection of this shift, as Manchester United prepares for the challenges that lie ahead under the new head coach.
