Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi remained composed and refrained from criticizing his team following their 2-2 draw against Bologna on Wednesday, which ended their impressive six-match winning streak in Serie A. The match, played at the iconic San Siro, proved to be a challenging encounter as Bologna displayed resilience and caused problems for Inter throughout the game.
Bologna took the lead in the 15th minute through Emil Holm’s clinical finish, putting Inter on the back foot early in the match. However, Inter quickly responded with an equalizer from Denzel Dumfries, who capitalized on a well-delivered cross. Lautaro Martinez then put Inter in front before halftime, giving the home side a slim 2-1 advantage. Despite the promising first-half performance, Inter’s second-half display was less convincing. They were unable to retain their momentum, and Bologna capitalized on Inter’s lack of fluidity by securing an equalizer midway through the second half.
With the game finishing in a 2-2 draw, Inter found themselves three points behind league leaders Napoli, which left coach Inzaghi with mixed emotions. Despite the disappointment of not securing a win, Inzaghi praised his team for their effort and acknowledged Bologna’s solid defensive organization. "We are not happy at all, but I have nothing to reproach the lads for," Inzaghi said, emphasizing that his players worked hard against a strong opponent.
Inzaghi further highlighted the challenges faced by Inter, especially considering Bologna’s tactical discipline and their ability to disrupt Inter’s attacking rhythm. He noted that despite a few missed opportunities, including some deflected goals, the team performed admirably, showcasing their ability to stay competitive even in tough situations.
Defender Matteo Darmian, reflecting on the match, focused on the positives, stressing that Inter always aims for victory, particularly when playing at home. He pointed to the team's strong reaction after conceding the early goal and how they managed to regain the lead before the halftime whistle. Darmian also emphasized that while the team was disappointed by the draw, earning 44 points after 19 games marked a significant achievement.
Looking ahead, Darmian reiterated that comparisons with the previous season were not necessary. He urged his teammates to continue their solid form and build on the momentum they’ve established so far. With Inter positioned in a strong spot in the league, Darmian remained confident that they could maintain their competitive edge for the rest of the season.
Inzaghi also echoed Darmian’s sentiments, noting that while there were areas to improve, the team showed excellent resilience against a physically challenging Bologna side. He praised the collective effort of his squad and expressed confidence that they would learn from the draw and continue to push for top performances in upcoming fixtures.
The match showcased Inter's determination and spirit, despite the setback, and the club remains focused on securing a strong finish in Serie A as they aim to close the gap to the league leaders.
