A misjudged pass allowed Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal to latch onto the ball and fire it past Denmark's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, giving Spain the early lead.

Spain clinched the top spot in Group A4 of the Nations League with a 2-1 victory over Denmark in a thrilling encounter at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. This win extended Spain's unbeaten run in the competition, as they finished the group with four wins and a draw, accumulating a total of 13 points—six points ahead of second-placed Denmark.

The match began with a stroke of fortune for Spain in the 15th minute, as Denmark's Jannik Vestergaard made a costly mistake. A misjudged pass allowed Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal to latch onto the ball and fire it past Denmark's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, giving Spain the early lead. Despite Denmark's best efforts to respond, Spain maintained control of the game, pressing forward with precision and poise.

In the second half, Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute, with Ayoze Perez finding the net. Dani Olmo delivered a perfect pass, and Perez made no mistake in finishing the opportunity to put Spain 2-0 up. Denmark struggled to break down Spain's defense, but they refused to give up and kept pushing for a way back into the game.

Denmark finally got their breakthrough with just six minutes remaining, thanks to another error by Spain. Fabian Ruiz's back pass was intercepted by Gustav Isaksen, who had earlier hit the post. Isaksen capitalized on the mistake, slotting the ball into an open net to make it 2-1, sparking hopes of a dramatic comeback for Denmark.

However, Spain held firm in the final minutes, securing the win that would ensure they topped the group and remained unbeaten in their Nations League campaign. The result also continued Spain’s impressive record under coach Luis de la Fuente, as the team is now unbeaten in 15 consecutive matches. With 13 wins and two draws during this stretch, Spain’s form has been formidable, marking their longest unbeaten streak under a single coach since Julen Lopetegui’s tenure from 2018-2020.

Spain’s victory also saw them extend their unbeaten run to nine matches in the Nations League when scoring first. Their last loss after taking the lead came in October 2021 against France, highlighting the team’s resilience when ahead in matches.

Looking ahead, Spain will face Switzerland next Monday before advancing to the Nations League quarter-finals scheduled for March. With their solid performances in the group stage, Spain will be looking to carry their momentum forward and challenge for the title.
