Vinicius Junior is set to miss Real Madrid's highly anticipated Champions League clash against Liverpool due to a muscle injury in his left leg. The Brazilian forward, who has been a key player for Los Blancos this season, has been diagnosed with a biceps femoris injury following tests conducted by the club's medical team. The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for at least three weeks, potentially ruling him out for up to seven matches across all competitions. This includes crucial La Liga fixtures against Girona and Athletic Bilbao, as well as a Champions League encounter against Atalanta, which could have significant implications for Real Madrid's progress in Europe.
Vinícius was in action just days before the injury, playing the full 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s 3-0 victory over Leganes on Sunday. In that match, he made a notable contribution, assisting Kylian Mbappe for the opening goal. His performance in the Champions League this season has been impressive, scoring four goals in as many appearances. Only Manchester City's Rico Lewis has created more chances in the competition than Vinícius, who has registered 12.
Real Madrid confirmed the injury in a statement, noting that the recovery timeline would depend on how the injury progresses. "Following tests carried out today on our player Vini Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. Pending evolution," the club said.
This setback comes at a challenging time for Real Madrid, with key fixtures on the horizon. Vinícius has been one of the standout players this season, playing a pivotal role in both La Liga and Champions League campaigns. His absence will undoubtedly be a blow to the team, but it also presents an opportunity for others to step up in his absence.
As Vinícius begins his recovery, Real Madrid and their fans will be hoping for a swift return to action, with the forward’s pace and creativity sorely missed on the pitch.
