India’s top men's doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, are set to take on South Korea’s Jin Yong and Seo Seung Jae in the semi-finals of the China Masters 2024 on Saturday, November 23, at the Shenzhen Bay Gymnasium in Shenzhen, China. This highly anticipated match will be a thrilling encounter, as it marks the first time these two pairs will face each other in a ranking tournament or any other competition.
Satwik and Chirag, who are seeded sixth in the BWF Super 750 event, have had a stellar run leading up to the semi-finals. They advanced to this stage with a dominant 21-16, 21-19 victory over Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in their quarter-final match, which lasted for 47 minutes. Earlier in the tournament, the Indian duo battled through a tough opening round against Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan, securing a hard-fought 12-21, 21-19, 21-18 win. In the second round, they once again faced Astrup and Rasmussen, overcoming them with a 21-16, 21-19 scoreline.
On the other hand, Jin Yong and Seo Seung Jae have been impressive in their run to the semi-finals. The unseeded South Korean pair reached this stage by defeating Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 20-22, 21-15, 21-14 in their quarter-final clash. In the previous rounds, they secured convincing wins, including a straight-games victory over the fourth-seeded Indonesian pair, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, with scores of 22-20, 21-7.
The match between Satwik-Chirag and Jin-Seo is expected to be a nail-biting contest, with both pairs looking to make their mark on the China Masters stage. While it will be their first encounter in a ranking event, Satwik and Chirag have faced Seo Seung-jae in the past, when he teamed up with different partners like Kang Min-hyuk and Choi Sol-gyu.
The semi-final will be the tenth match on Court 1, expected to begin after the second women’s doubles semi-final. The first semi-final of the day will start at 10:05 AM Local Time (7:35 AM IST), with Satwik and Chirag’s match likely to start around 5:15 PM IST. Fans can expect an exciting showdown, with both pairs bringing their best game to the court as they battle for a spot in the final.
