Chopra's transition to Zelezny’s tutelage is expected to have a profound impact on his performances in future competitions, including World Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

India’s javelin star, Neeraj Chopra, has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his career by teaming up with legendary Olympic champion Jan Zelezny as his coach. This collaboration marks a significant step for Chopra, who has been striving to reach new heights in his already impressive career.

Chopra, who won India's first Olympic gold medal in track and field at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has long admired Zelezny for his exceptional technique and consistency. "Growing up, I admired Jan's technique and precision and spent a lot of time watching videos of him," Chopra said. "He was the best in the sport for so many years, and I believe that working with him will be invaluable because our throwing styles are similar, and his knowledge is unmatched. It's an honour to have Jan by my side as I push towards the next level in my career, and I can't wait to get started."

Zelezny, a Czech javelin legend, is widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in the sport’s history. He clinched Olympic gold medals in three consecutive Games—1992, 1996, and 2000—and remains the holder of five of the top ten longest throws ever recorded. His world record throw of 98.48 meters, set in 1996 in Germany, has stood the test of time. Zelezny’s experience and deep understanding of the javelin throw are seen as a perfect match for Chopra, who is eager to elevate his technique and consistency in the upcoming years.

Zelezny spoke highly of Chopra, acknowledging his potential even early in his career. "I have already spoken about Neeraj as a great talent many years ago. When I saw him early in his career, I realised there were great possibilities for top results. I also said that if I should start to coach somebody from outside Czechia, my first choice would be Neeraj. I like his story and I see big potential, as he is young and able to improve," said Zelezny.

The coaching partnership is set to begin with a winter camp in South Africa, where the two will work closely on refining Chopra’s technical skills. Zelezny is particularly focused on enhancing Chopra’s technique to ensure that he continues to dominate on the global stage. "There have been many athletes contacting me for coaching, so for me to take this up means that it is a great honour to have him in my team," Zelezny added.

Chopra's transition to Zelezny’s tutelage is expected to have a profound impact on his performances in future competitions, including World Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics. With Zelezny's guidance, Chopra hopes to sharpen his technique and consistently improve his distances, solidifying his place as one of the best javelin throwers in the world.

This partnership not only marks an exciting new chapter for Chopra but also underscores the continued evolution of Indian athletics, as Chopra’s global success brings attention to the country's growing prominence in track and field. Fans and experts alike are eager to see how this collaboration will help Chopra break new barriers in the sport, following in the footsteps of his coach, Jan Zelezny.
