The 11th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 2024) kicked off on October 18, 2024, with a thrilling contest between the Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. The Titans came out on top, securing a memorable 37-29 victory over the Bulls, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
This season features 12 teams, including the defending champions Puneri Paltan, who will look to defend their maiden title, which they won in the previous season. The league follows a caravan format, with the tournament kicking off in Hyderabad before moving to Noida and Pune. A total of 137 matches are scheduled to be played over the next three months, building up to the playoffs in January 2025. The top six teams from the league stage will make it to the playoffs, where they will battle for a place in the final.
Puneri Paltan, who triumphed in the previous season, will be looking to maintain their strong defensive form, which played a key role in their title victory. However, this season, they will be without Mohammadreza Chiyaneh Shadloui, one of their standout defenders from the previous campaign. Chiyaneh has moved to the Haryana Steelers, a team that finished as runners-up last season. His departure leaves a gap in the Puneri Paltan defense, but the team still retains a core of talented players who can help them mount another strong challenge.
The league has always been known for its competitive nature, with teams relying heavily on strong defense to clinch victories. Top defenders like Fazel Atrachali, Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh, Sunil Kumar, and Krishan Dhull have consistently been the standout performers, and their performances will be key to the success of their respective teams this season.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the teams’ defenses, as well as the strategies they employ to overcome the challenges posed by their opponents. With the PKL 2024 season already in full swing, kabaddi fans can expect plenty of thrilling moments, fierce competition, and unforgettable performances
