The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2024 Season 11 kicked off on October 18, with an exciting opening match where Telugu Titans triumphed over Bengaluru Bulls 37-29. The match, held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, set the tone for a highly competitive season ahead. The season features 12 teams, with Puneri Paltan looking to defend their title after their historic victory in the previous season. Over the next three months, 137 matches will take place in a caravan format, beginning in Hyderabad before moving to Noida and Pune.
The league will follow a double round-robin format in the league stage, with the top six teams advancing to the playoffs in January. Defense will once again play a pivotal role in determining the champions, as seen in the last season when Puneri Paltan's strong defensive performance helped them secure the title. Notable defenders such as Fazel Atrachali, Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh, Sunil Kumar, and Krishan Dhull are expected to shine this season, given their experience and impact on the game.
Fazel Atrachali, the captain of Bengal Warriors, holds the record for the most tackle points in PKL history, with 491 points to his name. Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh, who topped the tackle points chart last season with 97 points in 24 matches, will be one to watch as well. Other key defensive players like Ankush Rathee, Sagar Rathi, and Jaideep Dahiya will also be crucial in their team's pursuit of victory. As teams continue to focus on strengthening their defense, the importance of defensive strategies will be evident throughout the season.
With the season well underway, fans can expect thrilling matches, intense rivalries, and plenty of highlight-reel tackles as the teams battle it out for supremacy. The PKL 2024 season is set to be another exciting chapter in the history of the league, where both attacking and defensive brilliance will determine the eventual champions.
