PV Sindhu, the esteemed double Olympic medalist in badminton, has taken a significant step in her training by enlisting South Korean badminton legend Lee Hyun Il as her temporary consulting coach. This decision follows the recent appointment of Anup Sridhar as her interim coach, marking a strategic move as Sindhu prepares for her return to competitive play.
Both coaches will work alongside Sindhu until December 2024, during which time a permanent coaching arrangement is expected to be established. This collaboration aims to provide a well-rounded support system for Sindhu as she navigates her upcoming tournaments.
Sindhu is scheduled to make her competitive comeback at the Finland Open and Denmark Open in October, and the addition of Lee Hyun Il to her coaching team is seen as a crucial advantage. A former world No. 1 and a teammate of Sindhu in the Premier Badminton League (PBL), Hyun Il boasts an impressive resume, including a bronze medal at the 2006 World Championships and two team gold medals at the Asian Games in 2002 and 2014. His extensive international experience and meticulous preparation methods are expected to significantly enhance Sindhu's game as she enters the European circuit.
Sindhu expressed her excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the strengths each coach brings to her team. "I'm thrilled to have Anup and Lee Hyun Il joining my team during this crucial period," she stated. "Anup's understanding of Indian badminton and his strategic approach have always impressed me, and I look forward to working closely with him. Having Lee, with his meticulous preparation and legendary experience, is an honor. I've always respected his attention to detail, and I can't wait to learn from him during these next few months," she added.
Lee Hyun Il also conveyed his enthusiasm about joining Sindhu's coaching setup. "Working with PV Sindhu was an easy decision. Our previous partnership in the PBL showcased her fierce determination and exceptional talent," he remarked. "I am excited to contribute to her growth and success in the upcoming tournaments."
This strategic coaching arrangement not only underscores Sindhu’s commitment to improving her game but also reflects her readiness to embrace new insights and methodologies as she aims for success on the international stage. The combination of Sindhu's skill and the wealth of experience from both coaches is expected to yield positive results as she prepares for her upcoming matches and strives for further accolades in her illustrious career.
