Asian Para Games 2026: Mona Agarwal Wins Second Gold With World Record Score
Indian para-shooter Mona Agarwal achieved another major milestone at the Asian Para Games 2026 by winning her second gold medal with a world-record performance in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event. Competing in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on October 23, Mona scored 357.5 points to secure the top position and surpass the previous world record.
Her latest victory strengthened India's campaign at the continental sporting event and highlighted her growing reputation in international para shooting.
Mona Agarwal Sets a New World Record
Mona delivered an impressive performance in the final of the women's 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 competition at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery. Her score of 357.5 points surpassed the previous world record of 356 points, which Sweden's Anna Benson had established at a competition in Novi Sad in July 2026.
Mona's performance also improved on the previous Asian record of 355.7 points, set by South Korea's Lee Yun-ri in September 2026. The Indian shooter therefore achieved a significant double milestone by setting new world and Asian records in the event.
China's Cuiping Zhang finished second with 353.7 points to claim the silver medal. South Korea's Kim Miyoung secured bronze with a score of 344.4 points. India's Avani Lekhara finished fourth with 333.2 points after losing ground during the standing series.
Second Gold Medal at the Games
The victory marked Mona's second gold medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games. She had earlier won the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event on the opening day of the competition.
In that event, Mona recorded 250.0 points to win gold and establish an Asian Para Games record. Her compatriot Avani Lekhara earned silver with 249.6 points, giving India a one-two finish.
Winning two gold medals in different shooting events demonstrated Mona's consistency and ability to perform under pressure. Her latest result also added to India's medal tally as the country continued competing across multiple para-sports disciplines.
Understanding the SH1 Shooting Category
The SH1 classification in para shooting is intended for athletes with eligible physical impairments who can support the weight of their firearm without requiring a shooting stand or support system. The category enables athletes to compete under classification rules designed to ensure fair competition.
The 50m rifle 3 positions event involves shooting from three positions: kneeling, prone and standing. Competitors must maintain accuracy and control while adapting to the different positions. The final demands concentration, technical precision and consistency throughout the competition.
Mona's record-breaking score reflected her strong performance across the final and helped her finish ahead of several experienced international competitors.
Mona Agarwal's Sporting Journey
Mona's success represents years of dedication to competitive sport. Before establishing herself in rifle shooting, she participated in other sporting disciplines, including para-athletics, para-powerlifting and sitting volleyball.
She began competitive rifle shooting in 2021 and progressed through national and international competitions. Her performances in major events helped establish her as an important member of India's para-shooting team.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Mona won bronze in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. That achievement brought her further recognition and demonstrated her ability to compete at the highest international level.
A Major Achievement for Indian Para Sports
Mona's second gold medal and world-record score are significant achievements for India at the Asian Para Games 2026. Her success also highlights the importance of sustained training, access to sporting opportunities and support for para-athletes.
As the competition continues in Japan, India's athletes will aim to secure additional medals across different disciplines. Mona's outstanding performance has already provided a memorable moment for the Indian contingent and strengthened the country's presence in international para shooting.
