Airtel has introduced an advanced AI-powered spam detection tool in India, aimed at enhancing user experience by automatically identifying and detecting spam calls and messages. Announced on Wednesday, this innovative solution allows users to discern potential spam communications, empowering them to decide whether to answer a call or reject it.
Developed in-house by Airtel’s data scientists, the tool utilizes a proprietary algorithm that assesses various parameters to classify calls and SMS as spam. Key metrics analyzed include sender usage patterns, the frequency of calls and messages, call durations, and more. The algorithm continuously monitors these parameters in real-time to ensure accurate spam identification.
To enhance its accuracy, the AI system cross-references its findings with a centralized database that includes blacklisted URLs, scanning all SMS messages in real time to detect any suspicious links. Additionally, the tool can identify behavioral anomalies, such as frequent changes in International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers, which are often indicative of spam activity.
While several third-party applications available on the Google Play Store and App Store offer spam detection through crowd-sourced information, Airtel's tool stands out as a first-party solution. This means users will not need to download any apps or subscribe to services to access spam information, ensuring a more straightforward and reliable experience backed by Airtel's extensive servers and databases.
The AI-powered spam detection tool will be automatically activated for all Airtel users in India, providing them with a seamless way to manage unwanted communications without any additional effort.
