Apple appears to be preparing to enter the foldable smartphone segment with the anticipated launch of its first foldable device, unofficially referred to as the iPhone Fold. According to multiple industry sources and supply chain reports, the foldable iPhone is likely to debut by late 2025 or early 2026. Though Apple has not officially confirmed the project, patent filings, prototype leaks, and analyst predictions suggest active development is underway.
The iPhone Fold is expected to feature a flexible OLED display measuring approximately 7.5 to 8 inches when unfolded, making it similar in size to small tablets. The external screen, when folded, is expected to function as a standard iPhone display, allowing users to access basic features without opening the device. Apple is said to be prioritizing display durability and a crease-free experience, which could set it apart from other foldables currently in the market.
Design leaks suggest a book-style fold similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. Apple may use advanced materials, such as titanium or reinforced aluminum, to keep the device lightweight yet durable. The hinge mechanism is expected to be one of the most refined in the industry, built to withstand frequent folding without compromising screen performance.
Internally, the device is expected to run on Apple’s next-generation A-series chip, potentially the A19 or higher, depending on the launch window. With high-performance hardware and optimizations in iOS for multitasking and larger displays, the iPhone Fold may support features like side-by-side app use and drag-and-drop functionality. There is also speculation that Apple Pencil support could be introduced, especially to cater to professionals and creatives.
Camera specifications for the foldable iPhone are still under wraps, but Apple is expected to maintain parity with its Pro-level iPhones. A triple-camera setup with sensor-shift image stabilization, advanced computational photography, and 4K video support is anticipated. The front camera may be integrated into the outer screen or under the display, using new technologies to minimize bezels.
Battery life remains a key concern for foldables, and Apple is expected to use a dual-battery layout to evenly distribute weight and power the larger display. Fast charging and MagSafe wireless charging features are expected to be included.
Pricing for the iPhone Fold is anticipated to be in the premium range, likely starting at around ₹1.8 lakh to ₹2 lakh in India. Apple may initially target a niche audience of early adopters and tech enthusiasts, expanding availability based on demand.
As the foldable smartphone market continues to grow, Apple’s entry could set new benchmarks for design, usability, and performance. While final specifications and release dates remain unconfirmed, expectations are high that Apple will bring its typical refinement and innovation to the foldable category.
