With AI-powered gait optimisation and advanced materials, the robot has not only joined the ‘10-second club’ alongside elite athletes but also showcases the capabilities of AI and cutting-edge robotics.

China's latest technological marvel, the Black Panther 2.0, has set a new benchmark in robotic mobility. Developed by Zhejiang University and the Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me, this quadruped robot dog can sprint 100 meters in less than 10 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Korea’s Hound robot.

The Black Panther 2.0’s performance is driven by an innovative biomimetic design inspired by animals such as Jerboas, Cheetahs, and Black Panthers. The robot features carbon-fiber shins, running shoes modeled after Cheetahs, and spring-loaded knee joints that mimic the shock-absorbing mechanisms of panthers. With AI-powered gait optimisation and advanced materials, the robot has not only joined the ‘10-second club’ alongside elite athletes but also showcases the capabilities of AI and cutting-edge robotics.

Standing 0.63 meters tall and weighing 38 kg, the Black Panther 2.0 achieves a peak stride frequency of five strides per second and can reach a top speed of 12.43 mph. The technology behind this robot combines high-power-density motor drivers and real-time gait adjustment, bringing robots closer to biological mobility. While it still falls short of some of the fastest animals, the Black Panther 2.0 marks a significant milestone in robotics, with future applications across various industries.
