According to current market listings, the earphones are available from August 24 through online retailers and selected professional audio dealers, including Amazon India, Flipkart, Real Image, Headphone Zone and Sound Glitz.

Sony has expanded its professional audio range in India with the launch of the IER M500 wired in ear monitor earphones. Priced at Rs 10,990, the new model is designed primarily for musicians, performers, monitor engineers and audio enthusiasts who require accurate sound reproduction and a secure fit during extended use.

The IER M500 is not positioned as a conventional consumer earphone. Sony has developed it specifically as an in ear monitor for stage performance, rehearsals and professional audio monitoring. The company says the product was developed in collaboration with monitoring engineers and is designed to deliver reliable monitoring even in demanding performance environments.

At the centre of the IER M500 is a single 5 mm dynamic driver. Sony combines the driver with a fully sealed acoustic structure and a large acoustic chamber to improve sound isolation and provide controlled audio reproduction. The company says the internal acoustic design is intended to deliver balanced sound and detailed reproduction across a wide frequency range

The earphones support high resolution audio and offer a frequency response ranging from 10 Hz to 40,000 Hz. This broad range is designed to reproduce low frequency bass as well as high frequency detail, making the model suitable for monitoring vocals and instruments during live performances and studio sessions.

One of the main features of the IER M500 is its fitting system. Sony includes original fitting supporters along with noise isolating ear tips to help users achieve a stable fit. Four sizes of noise isolating ear tips are provided, while flexible ear supporters are designed to keep the earphones securely positioned when performers move on stage.

A cable clip is also included. It can be positioned to help keep the cable secure and reduce unwanted movement or cable noise. This feature is particularly relevant for performers who move frequently while playing instruments or singing.

The IER M500 uses a detachable cable measuring approximately 1.6 metres. It has an L shaped 3.5 mm stereo mini plug, while the detachable connection is designed for repeated use. Sony says the cable has been tested for frequent bending and plugging and unplugging, reflecting the demands of professional stage and studio environments.

The earphones are also designed for demanding environments. Sony has described the construction as stage ready, with moisture resistant elements intended to help the product withstand sweat, rain and splashes during performance use.

In terms of specifications, the IER M500 has an impedance of 16 ohms and a sensitivity of 103 dB per milliwatt. Each earphone weighs approximately 6.9 grams without the cable, making the unit relatively lightweight for extended monitoring sessions.

Sony is offering the IER M500 in multiple finishes. Current India listings include Black, Clear and Red and Blue versions. The Red and Blue design can also help performers distinguish the left and right earpieces while on stage.

The Indian price has been set at Rs 10,990. According to current market listings, the earphones are available from August 24 through online retailers and selected professional audio dealers, including Amazon India, Flipkart, Real Image, Headphone Zone and Sound Glitz. Availability can vary between retailers and colours.

The IER M500 is entering a market where performers and audio professionals often rely on customised in ear monitors for live shows. Sony is positioning the new model as an accessible professional option that provides a combination of passive noise isolation, secure fitting and accurate monitoring without requiring a custom moulded earpiece.

For musicians, noise isolation can be particularly important because stage environments can contain loud monitor speakers, instruments and audience noise. Reducing external sound allows performers to hear their own vocals or instruments more clearly and can help them monitor the performance without unnecessarily increasing listening volume. Sony specifically highlights the passive isolation provided by the sealed design and noise isolating ear tips.

The product also fits into Sony's broader professional audio ecosystem. The company already offers microphones, studio headphones and other products aimed at creators, recording professionals and audio enthusiasts. The IER M500 extends that range into live stage monitoring.

For everyday listeners, the IER M500 could also appeal to consumers looking for wired high resolution audio and passive noise isolation. However, its design and feature set are primarily focused on monitoring rather than wireless convenience, active noise cancellation or smartphone focused features.

The launch also reflects continued interest in wired audio products among enthusiasts and professionals. While wireless earphones dominate much of the consumer market, wired in ear monitors remain popular among musicians, recording professionals and listeners who prioritise consistent connectivity and low latency.

With its 5 mm dynamic driver, sealed acoustic design, secure fitting system, detachable cable and high resolution audio support, the Sony IER M500 is positioned as a specialised wired audio product rather than a mainstream lifestyle earphone.

The Rs 10,990 launch price puts the model in a premium segment of India's wired earphone market. Its success will likely depend on how musicians, audio professionals and enthusiasts assess the balance between sound quality, comfort, durability and price.

Sony's new IER M500 therefore expands the company's professional audio lineup in India while giving performers another option for reliable stage monitoring. The product is now entering the Indian market with a focus on secure fit, passive noise isolation and accurate sound reproduction for demanding performance environments.

While wireless earphones dominate much of the consumer market, wired in ear monitors remain popular among musicians, recording professionals and listeners who prioritise consistent connectivity and low latency.
