Sony has officially launched its highly anticipated Alpha 1 II camera, touted as the brand's most powerful and versatile hybrid camera to date. Designed for both professional photographers and videographers, this full-frame camera comes with significant upgrades in performance, ergonomics, and image processing.
At the heart of the Alpha 1 II is the 50.1MP Exmor RS stacked CMOS sensor, combined with the BIONZ XR image processor. It is enhanced by a dedicated AI processing unit that powers real-time autofocus (AF) and real-time recognition, ensuring precise subject tracking at up to 120 calculations per second. The camera offers blackout-free, high-speed continuous shooting at 30fps with advanced AF/AE tracking, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects.
Key features include:
- AI-Powered AF & Tracking: Real-time AF tracking with complex subject recognition.
- High-Speed Continuous Shooting: 30fps with AF/AE tracking and up to 120 AF/AE calculations per second.
- 8K Video Recording: 8K 30p with 10-bit 4:2:2 color depth and 120p high-frame 4K recording.
- Improved OIS: 8.5 stops of optical image stabilization in the center and 7.0 stops in the periphery for smoother shots.
- New LCD Monitor & Ergonomics: Evolved 3.2-inch LCD with 4-axis multi-angle adjustability, improved grip, and custom button layouts for easier handling.
In terms of usability, the Alpha 1 II features a new Auto mode for automatic subject recognition, and advanced shooting modes like Pre-Capture, which allows the camera to capture moments up to one second before the shutter button is pressed. Its high-speed anti-distortion shutter, dynamic active mode, and breathing compensation further enhance the overall shooting experience.
The camera also supports seamless image transfer with 2.5GBASE-T wired LAN for real-time image transfers to Adobe Lightroom or Google Drive via Sony's Creators Cloud.
The Sony Alpha 1 II will be available in December 2024, with a retail price of $6,499.99 USD for the body-only version, and $8,499.99 USD for the kit version. The camera will be available at various authorized dealers across North America.
