Sony has begun releasing software updates for its LinkBuds S earbuds, WF-1000XM5 earbuds, and WH-1000XM5 headphones, aiming to enhance user experience with a range of new features. Each device is receiving updates with different software versions: Version 4.0.2 for LinkBuds S, Version 2.3.1 for WF-1000XM5, and Version 4.2.1 for WH-1000XM5 headphones.
Key features included in the updates are support for Auto Switch, which allows seamless device switching, Google Fast Pair with LE Audio priority connection for quick pairing, and Google’s Find My Device feature for easier tracking of lost devices.
Before proceeding with the update, Sony advises users to ensure the device connection is stable. Users should disconnect any Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) devices, as they may interfere with the update process. It is also recommended not to update while traveling due to potential interference with 2.4GHz radio waves, which could cause problems.
The update process may take anywhere from 40 to 60 minutes on Android and iOS devices. During this time, users can continue using their earbuds or headphones, but if any issues arise, it is best to stop usage until the update is complete. Additionally, Sony advises users to ensure that both the earbuds/headphones and the connected device have sufficient battery charge. Lastly, changing the Sound Connect setting to "Do not turn off" before updating is recommended for a smoother process.
