Technology experts note that the Unitree Go 2 itself remains a widely recognised robotics product in the global market.

The Unitree Go 2 robot dog has become the centre of discussion following a controversy at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The issue emerged after Galgotias University allegedly showcased the Chinese made robot as its own innovation under the name Orion. The development sparked widespread debate within academic and technology circles about research ethics, transparency and product attribution.

The robot in question, Unitree Go 2, is developed by Unitree Robotics, a China based robotics firm known for manufacturing quadruped robots for research and commercial use. The company officially introduced the Go 2 to the global market in 2023. It was promoted as an advanced AI powered robotic platform intended for robotics research, education, surveillance applications and industrial development.

According to official specifications released by the manufacturer, the Unitree Go 2 weighs approximately 15 to 16 kilograms. It is built using lightweight aluminium alloy and high strength engineering plastic materials, allowing it to maintain durability while remaining portable. The robot measures about 70 centimetres in length, 31 centimetres in width and 40 centimetres in height. Its compact design enables it to move across various terrains with improved stability and balance.

One of the key highlights of the Go 2 is its intelligent navigation system. The robot is equipped with advanced sensors, including depth cameras and artificial intelligence algorithms, that help it detect obstacles and navigate complex environments. It supports multiple movement modes such as walking, running and climbing small obstacles. The robot also includes wireless connectivity features that allow remote operation through dedicated software interfaces.

The device is primarily positioned for academic institutions, research laboratories and robotics enthusiasts. It can be programmed for autonomous operations, making it suitable for experimentation in artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation. Developers can customise its software framework to test different robotics applications.

Following the controversy at the summit, attention has also shifted to the pricing of the Unitree Go 2. Internationally, the base version of the robot has been reported to start at a price range equivalent to several thousand US dollars, depending on configuration and additional modules. Pricing may vary based on region, shipping and optional upgrades.

The incident at the summit has raised broader questions about the verification of technological claims made during public exhibitions. Events such as the India AI Impact Summit 2026 are designed to showcase innovation and promote collaboration between academia and industry. Allegations of misrepresentation can impact institutional credibility and may lead to administrative review or corrective action.

Technology experts note that the Unitree Go 2 itself remains a widely recognised robotics product in the global market. The controversy does not affect the technical standing of the original manufacturer but has intensified scrutiny around how imported technology is presented in academic forums.

As discussions continue, the focus remains on ensuring transparency in research demonstrations and maintaining ethical standards in technology showcases. The episode has also drawn attention to the growing influence of robotics and artificial intelligence in educational institutions across India.
