With the impending launch of Huawei's first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate Design, Xiaomi's plans for similar devices are coming to light. Recent reports reveal that Xiaomi is working on two tri-fold smartphones, with the first expected to debut in March 2025. This initial device, codenamed ‘zhuque’—after a high-ranking deity in Chinese mythology—will be Xiaomi's first button-less phone, featuring an innovative design that includes satellite communication and an under-display (invisible) selfie camera for a completely seamless all-screen appearance.
Leaked renders and schematics for the ‘zhuque’ model, identified by the model number '2503FVPB1C', indicate its advanced tri-fold design. Xiaomi's previous concept phone, the Mi Mix Alpha, featured a wraparound display but only had one physical button. The new device aims to eliminate buttons entirely, streamlining the user experience.
The second tri-fold smartphone, designated as ‘26013VP46C’, is anticipated to launch in January 2026, but its development will largely depend on the reception of the first model. If the button-less design fails to impress, the 2026 model might not be released. Reports suggest that the second device will also cater exclusively to the Chinese market and is expected to be powered by a successor to the rumored Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which is projected to be unveiled in late 2025.
In summary, while Xiaomi is making strides in the tri-fold smartphone arena with plans for two innovative models, their future will be closely linked to the performance and acceptance of the initial ‘zhuque’ device in the market.
