Custom Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Signature Series Is 23 kg Lighter Without Engine Modifications
GRID Motorcycles, an official Royal Enfield dealership based on Australia's Gold Coast, has developed a customised version of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 called the Signature Series. The limited-run motorcycle focuses on reducing weight, improving the design and changing the exhaust character while retaining the standard 648cc parallel-twin engine.
According to GRID Motorcycles, the complete conversion removes 23 kg from the standard motorcycle's tare weight. The engine, fuel system and fundamental running gear remain unchanged. This approach allows the custom motorcycle to retain the original powertrain while receiving a revised appearance and a number of hardware changes.
The Signature Series is designed for riders who want a distinctive motorcycle with custom-built details and dealership support. Each unit is individually numbered, and GRID states that the motorcycles come with genuine parts support and the applicable Royal Enfield factory warranty.
A custom Interceptor 650 from Australia
The Signature Series was developed at GRID Motorcycles' Gold Coast dealership in Queensland, Australia. The project combines the familiar Interceptor 650 platform with locally fabricated components and custom accessories.
GRID worked with specialists including Dylan Brown of Brawldonny Metalworks and Jesse Robinson of Robinson Engines. Other Gold Coast businesses, including Purpose Built Moto and Timeless Auto Trim, contributed components and upholstery.
Rather than transforming the motorcycle into a completely different design, the team retained the Interceptor's recognisable silhouette. The objective was to reduce unnecessary weight, refine the proportions and improve selected details without undertaking extensive engine modifications.
GRID has also stated that the Signature Series is a limited-run offering. The motorcycles are built and sold through the dealership rather than being standard bikes that customers must separately take to a custom workshop.
How the motorcycle loses 23 kg
The most notable feature of the Signature Series is its reported 23 kg weight reduction compared with the standard Interceptor 650. GRID achieved this by changing several components rather than modifying the engine internally.
At the rear, the factory subframe is shortened and rewelded to create a more compact profile. The original tail assembly is replaced with a smaller tail tidy, reducing bulk around the rear wheel.
At the front, a short custom mudguard replaces the standard component. The changes give the motorcycle a cleaner appearance while helping reduce unnecessary material.
The standard side covers are also replaced with smaller K-Speed Diablo panels. Their vented design exposes more of the frame and changes the motorcycle's overall appearance.
These alterations work together to create a shorter, more compact look. However, the actual weight reduction and the resulting riding characteristics should be understood in the context of GRID's reported specifications. Independent testing would be needed to quantify any changes in acceleration, braking or handling.
The 648cc engine remains unchanged
The Signature Series retains the Interceptor 650's 648cc parallel-twin engine. GRID has not carried out internal engine modifications or changes to the fuel system as part of this particular build.
This distinguishes the Signature Series from more extensively modified custom motorcycles that may use different engine internals, increased displacement or a redesigned chassis.
The principal mechanical change is the exhaust system. The bulky standard silencers are replaced by a custom header arrangement with short outlets positioned beneath the engine. GRID says the revised exhaust produces a deeper, more distinctive sound.
The exhaust is also intended to improve gas flow. Nevertheless, the builder's description should not be interpreted as confirmation of a specific increase in engine power, because no verified horsepower or torque figures for the modified motorcycle have been provided in the cited material.
With less weight to move and a different exhaust arrangement, GRID reports that the motorcycle feels more responsive. Actual performance will depend on several factors, including the final configuration and riding conditions.
Custom lighting, seat and bodywork
The Signature Series receives several styling changes that distinguish it from a standard Interceptor 650.
Purpose Built Moto supplies compact Dome three-in-one LED units that combine running lights, brake lights and indicators in a small housing. The build also uses Purpose Built Moto Scrambler mirrors.
The seat is produced by Timeless Auto Trim and features upholstery options that include black diamond cross-stitching and distressed brown ribbed finishes. Its shape is tailored to suit the shortened rear section.
Each motorcycle receives an individual paint scheme and identification number. GRID also offers different combinations of cast or spoked wheels, engine finishes and upholstery, allowing customers to choose a configuration that suits their preferences.
The result retains the classic roadster character of the Interceptor 650 while adding a more individual appearance.
Warranty, dealership support and price
One of the stated aims of the Signature Series is to combine custom styling with the ownership support associated with purchasing a motorcycle through a dealership.
GRID says each unit is backed by genuine parts support and the applicable Royal Enfield factory warranty. Customers should confirm the precise warranty coverage, exclusions and maintenance requirements before purchasing, as warranty protection depends on the applicable terms.
GRID's official build page lists a price of AUD 18,000 ride-away. This is an Australian-market price and should not be treated as an Indian price. The motorcycle is a custom dealership build, and availability or warranty arrangements in India should not be assumed.
What makes the Signature Series different?
The GRID Interceptor 650 Signature Series takes a restrained approach to motorcycle customisation. Instead of increasing engine displacement or extensively redesigning the powertrain, the builder has concentrated on weight reduction, proportions, exhaust design and finishing details.
The reported 23 kg reduction is the central feature of the project, supported by changes to the rear section, lighting, side covers and other components. The original 648cc parallel-twin engine and fuel system remain in place.
For riders interested in custom motorcycles, the Signature Series demonstrates how a familiar production model can receive a distinctive identity without extensive engine work. Its limited-run status, individual numbering and dealership support further distinguish it from a standard Interceptor 650.
Prospective buyers should consult GRID Motorcycles for current availability, configuration options, pricing and warranty conditions. The claimed weight reduction and performance impressions are based on the builder's information and should be attributed accordingly.
