Kawasaki Versys 900 Revealed Globally With Advanced Rider Assistance Technology
Kawasaki has unveiled the new Versys 900 for the 2027 model year, expanding its sport touring motorcycle range with a larger engine and advanced rider assistance technology. The motorcycle is positioned between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100 and combines performance inspired by the Kawasaki Z900 with equipment designed for long distance riding.
The new model is particularly notable because it becomes the first motorcycle in the Versys family to receive Kawasaki's Advanced Rider Assistance Systems, known as ARAS. The system introduces radar based features intended to support rider awareness and improve convenience during certain riding situations.
Kawasaki has confirmed that sales in the United Kingdom will begin in April 2027. An official Indian launch date and India specific price have not yet been announced. However, the new motorcycle is expected to attract attention among Indian buyers interested in premium sport touring motorcycles.
1. Powerful 948cc Inline Four Engine
The Kawasaki Versys 900 uses a 948cc liquid cooled, four stroke, inline four cylinder engine derived from the company's Z series motorcycles. The engine has been adapted for sport touring duties, with an emphasis on usable performance at low and medium engine speeds as well as strong acceleration at higher revs.
According to Kawasaki, the engine produces a maximum output of 122 PS at 9,500 rpm and peak torque of 97.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm. It is paired with a six speed transmission and a quickshifter.
The powertrain is intended to offer a balance between everyday usability and performance during longer journeys. The engine's torque delivery is designed to support smoother acceleration when riding through towns, travelling on highways or navigating hilly roads.
The motorcycle also features selectable power modes and integrated riding modes. These allow riders to adjust the bike's performance characteristics according to their preferences and riding conditions.
Kawasaki has also equipped the Versys 900 with traction control, enhanced ABS and its Cornering Management Function. These electronic systems are designed to support stability and control, although their effectiveness depends on road conditions, tyres and rider inputs.
2. Radar Based Safety Features
One of the biggest highlights of the new Versys 900 is its radar based rider assistance package. Kawasaki calls the technology Advanced Rider Assistance Systems, or ARAS.
The system includes Adaptive Cruise Control Lite, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection. An Emergency Stop Signal is also included to help alert other road users when the motorcycle brakes sharply.
Adaptive Cruise Control Lite is designed to help maintain a suitable following distance from a vehicle ahead under supported conditions. Forward Collision Warning alerts the rider to a potential collision risk, while Blind Spot Detection helps identify vehicles approaching from areas that may be difficult to see in the mirrors.
These technologies are intended to provide additional information and assistance rather than replace the rider's judgement. Riders must continue to observe traffic, maintain a safe following distance and remain prepared to respond to changing road conditions.
The addition of radar based systems gives the Versys 900 a more technology focused package within the middleweight sport touring category. However, the precise equipment and availability of individual systems in different markets should be confirmed when Kawasaki announces local specifications.
3. Touring Focused Design and Ergonomics
The Versys 900 features an upright riding position intended to provide comfort during both everyday journeys and longer touring trips. Kawasaki has developed a new trellis frame for the motorcycle, with an emphasis on balanced rigidity and predictable handling.
The bike uses long travel suspension and 17 inch wheels fitted with Metzeler ROADTEC 01 tyres. Its near 50 to 50 front to rear weight distribution is intended to support agile handling while carrying a rider and luggage.
The windscreen offers seven position adjustments, allowing riders to adapt wind protection to their height and riding preferences. The seat height can be adjusted between 825 mm and 845 mm.
Kawasaki has also shaped the fuel tank to help riders maintain a secure knee grip while making it easier to reach the ground. These features are intended to make the motorcycle suitable for a variety of road conditions and riding situations.
For touring, the motorcycle can be equipped with luggage accessories, including a 47 litre top case and two 32 litre panniers. These accessories provide additional storage capacity for longer journeys, although availability and pricing may differ by market.
4. TFT Display, Connectivity and Equipment
The new Versys 900 receives a five inch full colour TFT instrument display. The screen supports turn by turn navigation and can present information in two layouts, allowing riders to prioritise engine related information or navigation visibility.
Smartphone connectivity is provided through Kawasaki's Rideology app. Depending on the supported functions, riders can access connected motorcycle information and other useful features through their smartphones.
The motorcycle also includes LED lighting and a quickshifter. Kawasaki has designed the bodywork around what it describes as an Aero Edge styling concept, giving the bike a sporty appearance while retaining its touring focused proportions.
The standard model is offered in Metallic Spark Black and Pearl Robotic White. The Versys 900 SE receives separate colour combinations, including green with black and red with grey.
The SE version adds touring related equipment, including LED fog lamps, hand guards, heated grips, a radiator guard, frame protection sliders, a lower cowl and a centre stand.
Kawasaki has also announced Tourer and Grand Tourer accessory editions for customers who want additional equipment for longer rides. Availability of these editions may vary between markets.
5. Expected India Launch and Price
Kawasaki has confirmed UK sales of the Versys 900 will begin in April 2027. The standard model is priced at £10,899 in the UK, while the Versys 900 SE is priced at £11,799.
These are UK prices and should not be treated as expected Indian ex showroom prices. The final Indian price, if the motorcycle is introduced in the country, would depend on taxes, import arrangements, local specifications and other costs.
Kawasaki currently sells motorcycles from the Versys family in India, including the Versys X 300, Versys 650 and Versys 1100. This has led to speculation that the new Versys 900 could eventually join the Indian line-up.
Some automotive reports suggest that an India launch could be considered in 2027, potentially during the first half of the year. However, Kawasaki has not officially confirmed an Indian launch date, local variant details or pricing.
If introduced in India, the Versys 900 would be positioned between the existing Versys 650 and Versys 1100 in terms of engine capacity and likely pricing. Its final market position will depend on the variant selected for India and the equipment offered.
What Buyers Should Know
The Kawasaki Versys 900 combines a powerful inline four engine with touring focused ergonomics, modern connectivity and radar based rider assistance technology. Its adjustable windscreen, luggage options and electronic riding aids are intended to make it suitable for both regular road use and longer journeys.
For Indian buyers, the key details still to be confirmed are the official launch date, local price, variant availability and India specific equipment. Interested customers should monitor Kawasaki India's official website and announcements rather than relying on estimated prices or unofficial launch dates.
The new Versys 900 represents a significant expansion of Kawasaki's sport touring range, but its appeal in India will ultimately depend on pricing, availability and how its features compare with other premium motorcycles in the segment.
