Yamaha has expanded its R series portfolio in India with the launch of the new YZF R2. The motorcycle is available in three variants, with the R2 M positioned as the range topping version. While the standard R2 focuses on offering the core performance package, the R2 M adds several premium features and hardware upgrades.
The Yamaha YZF R2 starts at Rs 2,30,500 ex showroom, Delhi. The middle variant with the quick shifter is priced at Rs 2,39,500, while the top specification R2 M costs Rs 2,53,000. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from mid September 2026 through Yamaha's Blue Square dealership network.
Yamaha R2 vs R2 M Price
The standard Yamaha R2 is priced at Rs 2,30,500 ex showroom. The R2 M costs Rs 2,53,000, making the top variant Rs 22,500 more expensive than the base model.
The middle R2 Quick Shifter variant costs Rs 2,39,500. It adds Yamaha's third generation bidirectional quick shifter, which allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts.
The R2 M includes the quick shifter as well as additional hardware and styling upgrades.
Same Engine in Both Variants
One of the most important points for buyers is that the R2 and R2 M use the same engine.

The engine is paired with a six speed gearbox and an assist and slipper clutch. Therefore, choosing the more expensive R2 M does not provide a higher engine output.
Quick Shifter
The standard R2 does not get the bidirectional quick shifter as standard, while the middle and top variants receive the feature.
The third generation quick shifter allows riders to make both upshifts and downshifts without operating the clutch. This can be particularly useful during sporty riding and frequent gear changes.

The biggest hardware advantage of the R2 M is its adjustable suspension.

The Yamaha R2 range comes with Yamaha Ride Control, offering Street, Sport and Rain riding modes.
The motorcycle also features traction control and dual channel ABS. A five inch full colour TFT instrument display provides riding information and smartphone connectivity, while navigation functionality is available through the connected system.
These features make the R2 technologically more advanced than a basic entry level sports motorcycle.
Weight Difference
There is only a small weight difference between the variants.
The standard R2 has a claimed kerb weight of 149kg, while the R2 M weighs around 150kg. The additional hardware on the top variant therefore adds only a small amount of weight.
The motorcycle has an 810mm seat height and a 12 litre fuel tank, with 17 inch wheels at both ends.

The choice between the standard R2 and R2 M depends largely on how the motorcycle will be used.

For a daily commuter, these upgrades may not be essential. For enthusiasts who plan to use the motorcycle for spirited riding or want greater suspension adjustability, the R2 M could offer better value.
