The festival includes a Concours de l’Ordinaire, where these finalists are judged not for polish or performance, but for originality, authenticity, and nostalgia.

The annual Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional, one of the most distinctive automotive events in the UK, has revealed the finalists for its 2025 edition. Scheduled to take place at the historic Grimsthorpe Castle on July 27, the event continues its tradition of celebrating rare survivors from the past that were once ordinary, everyday vehicles.

Unlike traditional car shows that feature luxury or high-performance models, the Festival of the Unexceptional focuses on the humble side of automotive history. It honors models that were once common sights on roads but are now rare due to neglect or lack of preservation. These cars, often overlooked for their utilitarian design, reflect the daily lives and transport habits of the general public over the last few decades.

This year’s lineup of finalists includes a wide variety of models from manufacturers like Vauxhall, Austin, Ford, Peugeot, Nissan, and Rover. Each car represents a time when reliability and affordability were more important to buyers than speed or styling. The event places these underappreciated vehicles on a pedestal, allowing attendees to revisit memories tied to these humble machines.

Among the confirmed finalists for 2025 are a 1981 Ford Fiesta Popular, a 1992 Nissan Sunny, a 1977 Vauxhall Chevette, and a 1989 Austin Metro. These vehicles were submitted by enthusiasts from across the UK, each with its own preservation story. Some are original one-owner cars, while others have been lovingly restored by dedicated collectors who recognize their historical and sentimental value.

The festival includes a Concours de l’Ordinaire, where these finalists are judged not for polish or performance, but for originality, authenticity, and nostalgia. The judging panel consists of motoring historians, journalists, and past winners who assess each vehicle’s condition, story, and relevance to the event’s ethos.

Hagerty UK Managing Director Mark Roper stated that the event continues to grow in popularity each year, attracting a diverse crowd of enthusiasts, collectors, and curious visitors. According to him, the festival promotes inclusivity within classic car culture and proves that one does not need to own a rare supercar to be part of the automotive community.

In addition to the main competition, the 2025 edition of the festival will feature classic car displays, family activities, vendor stalls, and interviews with owners and experts. The relaxed atmosphere and unique focus make it a standout summer event on the UK’s motoring calendar.

The Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional serves not just as a celebration of old cars, but also as a reflection of how the automotive landscape shaped everyday life. It highlights the importance of preserving even the most modest of machines, ensuring they remain part of the cultural memory.

With anticipation building, the selected finalists will now prepare to present their cars at Grimsthorpe Castle, where stories of ordinary vehicles will once again take center stage.
