Hyundai Motor India is reportedly planning to bring its internationally acclaimed flagship SUV, the Palisade, to the Indian market by 2028. This move is seen as part of the company’s long-term strategy to expand its premium vehicle lineup in one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile markets.
The Hyundai Palisade, already successful in markets like the United States, South Korea, and Australia, is a full-size SUV that is expected to offer a blend of comfort, performance, and technology to Indian consumers. With increasing interest in large SUVs and the premium segment in India showing steady growth, Hyundai’s decision to introduce the Palisade could position the brand as a strong player in the higher-end SUV category.
Measuring over 4.9 meters in length, the Palisade boasts a bold and commanding road presence. It features a large front grille, LED lighting elements, and sculpted body lines that give it a premium and muscular appearance. Inside, the SUV offers a spacious three-row seating layout, premium upholstery, and a range of comfort and tech features, including a digital driver display, touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, and multiple USB ports.
Globally, the Palisade is powered by a 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, offering both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. However, for the Indian market, Hyundai is expected to consider a diesel powertrain option or even explore hybrid technology in response to local preferences and emission norms. Engine and transmission combinations are yet to be confirmed for the Indian version.
The SUV is likely to come equipped with a wide array of safety features, including multiple airbags, electronic stability control, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera system. Hyundai may also include ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features, keeping up with the growing trend of smart safety technology in India’s premium vehicle space.
The Palisade’s arrival could pose strong competition to existing models in the segment such as the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, and upcoming models from brands like Kia and Mahindra. Pricing is expected to be in the ₹45 lakh to ₹55 lakh range (ex-showroom), positioning it as a top-tier offering in Hyundai’s SUV portfolio.
While an official launch timeline is yet to be confirmed, sources within the industry suggest that Hyundai has already begun feasibility studies and market research. A localised assembly strategy could also be explored to make the pricing more competitive.
With growing aspirations among Indian consumers and a shift toward feature-rich, spacious SUVs, Hyundai’s Palisade could be a game-changer in the full-size SUV market. Its arrival by 2028 will not only expand Hyundai’s product portfolio but also redefine its position in India’s premium automotive segment.
