Industry analysts believe this rating will give the Syros a significant advantage in a highly competitive SUV market, where safety ratings are becoming an increasingly important factor for Indian consumers.

In a major development for India’s automobile safety landscape, the upcoming Kia Syros SUV has received a prestigious 5-star rating under the Bharat NCAP crash test programme, making it one of the safest vehicles in its segment. The announcement was made following rigorous safety evaluations that tested the vehicle’s performance in frontal and side impact scenarios, as well as child occupant protection standards.

The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), launched to promote safer vehicles in India, follows globally benchmarked testing protocols. Under this program, vehicles are evaluated for crashworthiness and awarded safety ratings ranging from 0 to 5 stars, depending on their ability to protect passengers in real-world crash conditions.

According to officials, the Kia Syros performed exceptionally well in all key test categories, earning full marks for adult occupant protection and high scores for child safety. The SUV comes equipped with multiple advanced safety features, including:

Six airbags

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with EBD

Rear parking sensors and camera

ISOFIX child seat anchors

Seat belt reminders for all seats

The test results showed the Syros offering robust structural integrity, with minimal cabin intrusion during frontal impact tests. Side-impact protection and head restraint tests also delivered top-tier results, highlighting the company’s commitment to engineering excellence and passenger safety.

Speaking on the occasion, a Kia India spokesperson said,
"We are proud of this recognition. The Syros’s 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP underscores our focus on producing vehicles that are not only innovative but also among the safest on Indian roads."

The Kia Syros is expected to launch in mid-2025, positioned between the Kia Seltos and Sonet in the company’s SUV lineup. It will cater to urban and semi-urban buyers seeking a stylish, spacious, and safe SUV with advanced tech features and premium interiors.

Industry analysts believe this rating will give the Syros a significant advantage in a highly competitive SUV market, where safety ratings are becoming an increasingly important factor for Indian consumers. As awareness around crash test performance grows, car buyers are showing a clear preference for vehicles with verified safety credentials.

With the Syros’s stellar performance, Kia joins the ranks of automakers prioritizing safety as a core brand value, paving the way for safer road travel in India.

Under this program, vehicles are evaluated for crashworthiness and awarded safety ratings ranging from 0 to 5 stars, depending on their ability to protect passengers in real-world crash conditions.
