Maruti Suzuki Dzire Crosses 35 Lakh Production Milestone
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved another major milestone in its passenger vehicle manufacturing journey. The company’s popular compact sedan, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, has crossed 35 lakh units in cumulative production since its introduction in 2008. The milestone was achieved in October 2026, marking nearly 18 years and nine months of production.
The Dzire is manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility in Haryana. Over the years, the sedan has established a strong presence in the Indian automobile market and has also reached customers in several international markets. Its latest production achievement reflects the model’s continued presence in the compact sedan segment.
With this milestone, the Dzire has joined three other popular Maruti Suzuki models, Alto, Swift and WagonR, which have also crossed 35 lakh units in cumulative production. This makes the Dzire the fourth model from the company to achieve this manufacturing landmark.
Dzire Production Journey From 2008
Maruti Suzuki introduced the Dzire in 2008. Since then, the model has gone through four generations, with changes in design, features, comfort and technology to meet evolving customer expectations.
The sedan reached its first major production milestone of 10 lakh units in April 2015. It subsequently crossed 20 lakh units in June 2019. Production reached 30 lakh units in December 2024, and the latest achievement has taken the cumulative figure beyond 35 lakh units in October 2026.
The production timeline highlights the model’s growth over nearly two decades.
| Production milestone | Achievement |
| 10 lakh units | April 2015 |
| 20 lakh units | June 2019 |
| 30 lakh units | December 2024 |
| 35 lakh units | October 2026 |
The company’s production figures also indicate an increase in manufacturing pace. It took seven years and three months to produce the first 10 lakh Dzire units. In comparison, the latest one million units were manufactured in four years and four months.
This progress demonstrates the continued manufacturing demand for the sedan. The cumulative production figure includes vehicles made for domestic and export markets.
Four Generations Helped the Sedan Evolve
Since its introduction, the Dzire has undergone several changes to remain relevant in a competitive automobile market. Each generation brought updates to its exterior appearance, cabin design, equipment and overall driving experience.
The first-generation Dzire was introduced in 2008. The second generation followed in 2012, while the third generation arrived in 2017. Maruti Suzuki introduced the fourth-generation model in November 2024.
The latest generation received a refreshed exterior design and updated two-tone interior styling. The company also introduced additional features and improvements aimed at meeting the expectations of modern car buyers.
The Dzire has attracted customers looking for a sedan with practical everyday usability. Its compact dimensions, family-oriented design and availability through Maruti Suzuki’s extensive sales and service network have contributed to its presence in the Indian market.
The model has also maintained a position in the company’s important passenger vehicle portfolio. Maruti Suzuki has described the Dzire as one of its key models in the sedan segment.
Safety Rating Adds to the Model’s Recognition
Safety has become an increasingly important factor for Indian car buyers. The latest-generation Dzire received significant attention after achieving a five-star rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme, commonly known as Bharat NCAP.
According to the company, the Dzire became the first sedan to receive a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. This recognition has added to the model’s profile in a market where vehicle safety is receiving greater attention.
The fourth-generation model was introduced with updated equipment and safety-related features. Its safety rating has also helped bring attention to the importance of independent vehicle crash testing and safety standards in India.
Maruti Suzuki has continued to highlight the Dzire’s combination of design, comfort, fuel efficiency and safety as important factors behind its customer acceptance.
Fuel Efficiency and CNG Option
Fuel efficiency remains an important consideration for buyers in the compact sedan segment. Maruti Suzuki has offered the Dzire with petrol and S-CNG powertrain options.
The company has stated that the automatic S-CNG variant delivers a certified fuel efficiency of 36.47 kilometres per kilogram. This figure is based on the company's stated certification data and may differ from the mileage achieved under actual driving conditions.
The availability of different powertrain options allows customers to consider the vehicle according to their driving requirements and fuel preferences.
The Dzire’s position in the market has also been supported by its role in Maruti Suzuki’s domestic and export operations. The company has supplied the sedan to several international markets, helping the model expand beyond India.
Dzire Continues to Be an Important Maruti Suzuki Model
Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisashi Takeuchi said the 35 lakh production achievement represents an important milestone in the Dzire’s journey. He credited the model’s continued customer acceptance and the contributions of employees, suppliers and dealer partners for its progress.
The company has also identified the Dzire among its important production models. During the financial year 2025 to 2026, it was among the five highest-produced Maruti Suzuki passenger vehicle models, alongside the Fronx, Swift, Ertiga and Baleno.
The latest production milestone comes at a time when the Indian automobile market continues to see changing customer preferences. Buyers are increasingly considering safety ratings, fuel efficiency, technology and overall ownership costs while selecting vehicles.
The Dzire’s journey from its 2008 introduction to crossing 35 lakh production units highlights its long-standing presence in the Indian automobile industry. With four generations and a growing production record, the sedan remains an important model in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio.
The company’s achievement also places the Dzire among a small group of Indian passenger vehicle models to reach this level of cumulative production. Its future performance will depend on customer demand, product updates and the company’s ability to respond to changes in the automobile market
