Industry experts view this announcement as a positive sign for the luxury automotive market, which is seeing renewed demand for high-performance touring vehicles.

Luxury automaker Maserati has confirmed that it will resume production of its iconic GranTurismo and GranCabrio models at its historic plant in Modena, Italy, by late 2025. This marks a significant strategic move to reinforce the brand’s connection to its Italian heritage while also advancing its presence in the global luxury car segment.

The decision was officially announced by the company in a statement outlining future production and product strategy. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio models, known for their grand touring capabilities and elegant design, were earlier produced in Modena before the brand temporarily shifted focus toward newer electric and hybrid models. Now, Maserati is reviving these legendary nameplates, updated with modern technologies and renewed focus on performance and luxury.

The Modena facility, which has long been associated with the Maserati brand, is undergoing updates to support production of the new-generation vehicles. While exact specifications for the upcoming models have not yet been released, sources suggest that both models will feature options for internal combustion engines as well as electrified versions. This aligns with Maserati’s broader plan to offer electric variants of all its vehicles by the end of the decade.

The GranTurismo, originally launched in 2007, has earned praise worldwide for its combination of long-distance comfort, performance, and styling. The GranCabrio, its convertible counterpart, shares similar performance characteristics and is widely regarded as one of the most elegant open-top sports cars. With the relaunch, both models are expected to carry forward this legacy with enhanced dynamics, upgraded interiors, and improved connectivity.

Maserati’s announcement also reflects the brand’s strategy of retaining craftsmanship in Italy. The Modena plant is being equipped with modern tools and skilled labor to ensure these models meet the expectations of discerning buyers globally. The move is also seen as part of Stellantis' broader plan to strengthen luxury and performance brands within the group.

The revival of these models is expected to appeal not only to traditional Maserati fans but also to a younger generation of buyers looking for performance with refinement. Design cues are likely to be inspired by previous generations, with aerodynamic improvements and the integration of lightweight materials for better efficiency and handling.

Industry experts view this announcement as a positive sign for the luxury automotive market, which is seeing renewed demand for high-performance touring vehicles. Maserati's decision to reintroduce GranTurismo and GranCabrio production also positions it to compete with rivals such as Porsche, Aston Martin, and Mercedes-Benz in the grand tourer category.

The new GranTurismo and GranCabrio models are expected to be unveiled globally before the end of 2025, with production and deliveries starting shortly afterward. Additional information about powertrain options, pricing, and markets will be shared by the company in due course.
