Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and its subsidiary, Jaguar Land Rover, have officially commenced production at their new manufacturing facility located in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. The inaugural rollout from the plant was the locally produced Range Rover Evoque, highlighting the facility’s strategic importance in JLR’s global production network.
The new plant was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran. Senior executives from Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Jaguar Land Rover, and other Tata Group companies, along with state government officials, were present to mark the occasion. The facility is part of the group’s ongoing efforts to expand manufacturing capacity and reinforce its position in the Indian and international automotive markets.
The Panapakkam facility represents the first phase of a greenfield manufacturing project designed to produce next-generation vehicles for both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover. It is equipped with state-of-the-art production lines, advanced robotics, and digital manufacturing systems that are aligned with global industry standards. Over the next five to seven years, the plant is expected to scale production to an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles.
The new Tamil Nadu plant will cater to both domestic customers and export markets, forming a key part of Tata Motors’ broader manufacturing strategy. The facility is designed to support a diverse range of powertrains, including conventional internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and upcoming electric vehicle models. This flexibility ensures that the plant can accommodate future product programmes and evolving consumer demand in India and abroad.
The launch of the Panapakkam facility also reflects Tata Motors and JLR’s commitment to sustainability. The plant is being developed with energy-efficient systems, reduced water usage, and modern waste management processes, in line with Tata Group’s environmental goals. It is expected to create significant employment opportunities in the region and contribute to the growth of the local automotive ecosystem, including suppliers and ancillary industries.
The Range Rover Evoque, the first car to roll out from the facility, will continue to be a key model for JLR in India, combining premium design and performance for the luxury SUV segment. As production ramps up, other JLR models and Tata Motors vehicles are expected to be manufactured at the facility, positioning the plant as a central hub for both brands in the Asia-Pacific region.
This new Tamil Nadu plant underlines Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover’s long-term commitment to India as a manufacturing and export base. It aligns with the company’s strategy of expanding capacity for electric and hybrid vehicles while strengthening conventional production. With the rollout of the Range Rover Evoque, the Panapakkam facility marks a major milestone in the Tata Group’s automotive growth journey, enhancing its competitiveness on both domestic and global fronts.
