Tata Motors has officially launched petrol variants of its popular flagship SUVs, the Harrier and the Safari, marking a significant update to its internal combustion engine portfolio. With this move, Tata aims to cater to customers seeking a petrol-powered alternative in the premium mid-size SUV segment. The Tata Harrier petrol is priced from ₹12.89 lakh, while the Safari petrol starts at ₹13.29 lakh, both prices being ex-showroom.

The key highlight of the update is the introduction of the new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine. This powertrain was previously showcased in the Sierra SUV and is positioned as a more powerful and refined petrol option compared to earlier offerings. While Tata Motors has not yet disclosed detailed performance figures for all variants, the engine is expected to deliver strong acceleration and improved drivability, making it suitable for both urban and highway use.

Despite the addition of the petrol engine, the Harrier and Safari remain unchanged in terms of their underlying architecture. Both SUVs continue to be based on the Land Rover-derived OMEGARC platform, which is known for its robust construction and stable road dynamics. This platform has been a key factor in the strong safety credentials and ride quality of the two models.

In terms of design, the petrol variants retain the familiar exterior styling of the Harrier and Safari. The bold front fascia, signature lighting elements, and muscular body proportions remain intact. Inside, the SUVs continue to offer a spacious cabin, premium materials, and a technology-rich dashboard. Features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and advanced connectivity options are expected to be available across variants.

The launch of petrol variants is expected to broaden the appeal of the Harrier and Safari, especially in markets where petrol SUVs are in higher demand. It also aligns with evolving customer preferences and regulatory trends. Tata Motors continues to offer diesel variants alongside the new petrol options, giving buyers a wider range of choices.

With competitive pricing and a new turbo-petrol engine, the Harrier and Safari petrol models aim to strengthen Tata Motors’ position in the premium SUV segment. The introduction of these variants is likely to intensify competition in a category that already includes several established rivals.
