Top 6 and 7-Seater Cars in September 2026: Scorpio Leads the Sales Chart

India’s 6 and 7-seater passenger vehicle segment reported strong growth in September 2026, reflecting continued demand for vehicles that offer additional seating and family-friendly practicality. According to figures published by Auto Punditz, sales across the segment reached 91,400 units, compared with 72,130 units in September 2025. This represents a reported year-on-year increase of 26.7 per cent.

The Mahindra Scorpio secured the top position in the sales rankings, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Mahindra Bolero and Mahindra XUV 7XO occupied third and fourth places, respectively. Other models in the reported rankings included the Toyota Innova range, Kia Carens range, Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Rumion.

Mahindra Scorpio Retains the Top Position

The Mahindra Scorpio was the best-selling model in the 6 and 7-seater category in September 2026, with reported sales of 17,313 units. The figure includes the Scorpio nameplate, covering the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic. However, sales were lower than the 18,372 units reported for September 2025.

Despite the year-on-year decline, the Scorpio remained at the top of the segment. Its SUV styling, road presence and choice of powertrains continue to make it a prominent option for buyers looking for a rugged vehicle with additional seating. The model’s performance highlights how established SUVs continue to compete strongly in India’s family-car market.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Takes Second Place

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ranked second with 16,911 units sold in September 2026. The model recorded substantial growth compared with the 12,115 units reported in the same month last year, an increase of approximately 39.6 per cent.

The Ertiga remains an important option for buyers seeking a practical multi-purpose vehicle. Its three-row layout, family-oriented cabin and positioning in the MPV market help it appeal to private buyers as well as commercial and fleet customers. Its close sales figures compared with the Scorpio also show the strong demand for more affordable people-carrier vehicles.

Although the Ertiga finished second in the broader 6 and 7-seater ranking, it continued to be one of the segment’s strongest performers during the month.

Mahindra Bolero and XUV 7XO Complete the Top Four

The Mahindra Bolero ranked third, with reported sales of 9,710 units in September 2026. This was a significant increase over the 2,747 units recorded in September 2025, according to the published data. The model’s traditional SUV character and suitability for varied road conditions remain important aspects of its market appeal.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO placed fourth with 9,097 units. Its reported sales were lower than the 9,764 units recorded in September 2025, representing a year-on-year decline of 6.8 per cent.

Together, the results show that Mahindra models occupied three of the first four positions in the September rankings. However, the performance of individual models varied, with the Bolero registering substantial growth while the Scorpio and XUV 7XO recorded lower year-on-year volumes.

Toyota Innova Range and Kia Carens Range

The Toyota Innova and Innova Hycross recorded combined sales of 8,008 units, placing them fifth in the reported list. This was below the combined 9,783 units reported for September 2025.

The Kia Carens and Carens Clavis range recorded 6,319 units, according to the same dataset. This was a decline from 7,338 units in the corresponding month last year.

Both model ranges compete in the market for vehicles with multiple seating rows. Their performance reflects the varying demand across the MPV and three-row vehicle categories. Sales rankings can change from month to month depending on customer demand, model availability, pricing, promotions and the introduction of updated vehicles.

XL6 and Rumion Record Annual Growth

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 recorded 3,251 units in September 2026, compared with 2,170 units in September 2025. This represents reported year-on-year growth of 49.8 per cent.

The Toyota Rumion recorded 2,481 units, compared with 829 units in September 2025. The figures indicate an increase of approximately 199.3 per cent year on year.

These results show that growth was not limited to the highest-ranked models. The XL6 and Rumion also recorded higher sales than a year earlier, although their monthly volumes remained below those of the Scorpio and Ertiga.

Other vehicles appearing in the published rankings included the Toyota Fortuner, Tata Safari, Renault Triber, Hyundai Alcazar and several premium multi-row vehicles. Their individual results varied, underlining that the segment does not share a uniform growth trend.

What the September Sales Figures Indicate

The reported increase to 91,400 units suggests that demand for vehicles offering six or seven seats remained strong in September 2026. The Scorpio’s leading position and the Ertiga’s close second-place finish demonstrate the continuing appeal of both SUVs and practical MPVs.

At the same time, the year-on-year performance differed significantly between models. The Bolero, XL6 and Rumion recorded notable increases, while the Scorpio, XUV 7XO and Innova range posted declines compared with September 2025.

The figures should be understood as reported segment-level sales data rather than a measure of every individual buyer’s preference. Rankings can also depend on how related models are grouped, such as the Scorpio range, Innova range and Carens range.

Overall, September’s figures place the Mahindra Scorpio at the top of India’s 6 and 7-seater sales chart, with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga close behind. The Mahindra Bolero and XUV 7XO complete the first four positions, while the XL6 and Rumion stand out for their reported year-on-year growth. The coming months will show whether these rankings continue as customer demand and vehicle availability change.

The model recorded substantial growth compared with the 12,115 units reported in the same month last year, an increase of approximately 39.6 per cent.
