While Toyota has not issued a formal statement on the reason behind the price change, market analysts suggest that rising input costs, increased manufacturing expenses, and stricter emission norms may be contributing factors.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially increased the prices of its flagship SUV, the Toyota Fortuner, by up to ₹68,000 across various variants. The price hike came into effect in June 2025 and is applicable to both petrol and diesel versions, including premium trims like the Legender and GR-S (Gazoo Racing Sport).

This revision marks a significant update for one of India’s most popular full-size SUVs, which has consistently led the premium SUV segment in terms of sales and brand value.

Revised Prices and Variants Affected

According to the updated price list released by Toyota dealerships, the price hike ranges from ₹45,000 to ₹68,000, depending on the variant and powertrain configuration. The 4x2 and 4x4 models of both petrol and diesel Fortuners have seen upward adjustments, with the GR-S performance trim receiving the highest increase.

While Toyota has not issued a formal statement on the reason behind the price change, market analysts suggest that rising input costs, increased manufacturing expenses, and stricter emission norms may be contributing factors. Additionally, the recent focus on Neo Drive (Toyota’s mild hybrid and strong hybrid powertrains) across its product line could also be playing a role in shifting product pricing strategies.

Neo Drive Strategy and Its Impact

Toyota's Neo Drive branding was recently introduced in India to align with its global electrification strategy. While the Fortuner does not currently feature hybrid powertrains under the Neo Drive lineup, Toyota’s shift towards hybrid and electric mobility could be leading to broader pricing realignments across its portfolio.

With models like the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross showcasing Toyota’s hybrid push, the Fortuner’s price hike may be a step toward maintaining product positioning and profitability amid the evolving market landscape.

Continued Popularity of the Fortuner

Despite repeated price hikes in recent years, the Toyota Fortuner remains one of the most sought-after SUVs in India. Known for its rugged build, powerful engine options, and reliable performance, the Fortuner continues to attract buyers from both urban and rural regions.

The vehicle appeals to government officials, corporate buyers, and off-road enthusiasts alike. Its high resale value and after-sales support also contribute to its sustained popularity.

What Buyers Should Know

Prospective Fortuner buyers should note that the new prices are now live at all Toyota dealerships across India. While the price increase may impact affordability for some, the Fortuner’s brand equity, premium features, and reliability remain unchanged.

With no major mechanical or feature updates announced alongside the price hike, customers are essentially paying more for the same product lineup. However, Toyota is expected to continue offering financing schemes, exchange bonuses, and occasional dealer-level discounts.

With models like the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross showcasing Toyota’s hybrid push, the Fortuner’s price hike may be a step toward maintaining product positioning and profitability amid the evolving market landscape.
