Citroen has officially revealed the 2025 iteration of its flagship SUV, the C5 Aircross, showcasing a comprehensive update that includes a hybrid powertrain, refreshed styling, and improved technology. The launch marks another step in Citroen’s transition toward electrified mobility, with the brand aiming to offer greener alternatives across its global lineup.

Hybrid Powertrain Now Standard

One of the most significant updates to the 2025 C5 Aircross is the introduction of a new hybrid powertrain. The SUV now comes equipped with a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This setup delivers better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions compared to the outgoing non-electrified variants. The powertrain is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, ensuring a smooth driving experience in both urban and highway conditions.

Citroen claims the hybrid variant offers up to 15% better fuel economy and supports regenerative braking to enhance overall efficiency. The system allows for short distances of electric-only driving, primarily at low speeds or during deceleration.

Exterior and Interior Enhancements

Visually, the 2025 C5 Aircross gets a subtle yet modern makeover. The front fascia now features a redesigned grille with sleeker LED headlamps and a revised bumper for a bolder look. The side profile remains familiar but gains new alloy wheel designs and updated body cladding.

At the rear, the SUV sports updated LED tail lamps and minor tweaks to the bumper and tailgate. The changes aim to keep the C5 Aircross competitive in the increasingly crowded mid-size SUV segment.

Inside, the cabin receives several enhancements, including a larger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with updated software and wireless smartphone integration. The digital instrument cluster has also been refined for improved clarity and responsiveness.

The seats continue to feature Citroen’s signature Advanced Comfort technology with additional cushioning, ensuring high levels of comfort during long drives. Interior materials have been upgraded, offering a more premium feel across all variants.

Focus on Safety and Connectivity

In terms of safety, the updated C5 Aircross includes a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. The SUV also supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates, keeping its infotainment and navigation systems current.

Global Rollout and India Launch Expectations

The 2025 Citroen C5 Aircross will go on sale in Europe later this year, with bookings already open in select markets. While Citroen India has not officially confirmed the timeline for the new C5 Aircross’s debut in the country, the model is expected to arrive in early 2026. Given the increasing demand for hybrid and electric vehicles in India, Citroen could position the updated SUV as a premium yet eco-friendly alternative in the segment.

As more automakers move toward electrification, the 2025 C5 Aircross signals Citroen's serious intent to remain relevant and competitive in global and emerging automotive markets.
