Industry experts note that the expansion of reliable public charging infrastructure is essential for sustaining long-term growth in the electric two-wheeler segment.

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has announced a major expansion of its fast-charging network across India, strengthening the country’s electric mobility infrastructure. With this expansion, Ather riders can now access more than 5,000 public fast-charging points spread across over 395 cities nationwide. The development marks an important milestone for the company as it works to make electric two-wheelers more practical for everyday use.

The fast chargers are equipped with the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) connector, a standard developed specifically for light electric vehicles such as scooters and motorcycles. LECCS enables faster charging while maintaining safety and compatibility across different electric two-wheeler platforms. By adopting this connector standard, Ather aims to ensure that its charging network remains scalable and future-ready.

Ather’s fast-charging network, branded as Ather Grid, has been steadily expanding over the past few years. The latest addition of charging points significantly enhances coverage across urban centres, highways and key travel corridors. This improved accessibility is expected to help riders undertake longer journeys with greater confidence, addressing one of the main concerns associated with electric vehicle ownership: range anxiety.

According to the company, the expanded network includes both company-owned chargers and partner-installed public charging stations. These chargers are strategically located at malls, office complexes, residential areas, restaurants and fuel stations, making them easily accessible during daily commutes and longer trips. The wide geographical spread ensures that riders in Tier 1, Tier 2 and several Tier 3 cities benefit from the charging infrastructure.

The expansion also aligns with India’s broader push towards cleaner transportation and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. As electric two-wheelers account for a large share of the country’s overall vehicle population, strengthening charging infrastructure is seen as a critical step in accelerating the transition to electric mobility. Ather’s initiative complements government efforts to promote EV adoption through policy support and incentives.

For Ather riders, the fast chargers offer a convenient and time-efficient charging solution. Depending on the scooter model and battery condition, a significant amount of range can be added in a short duration, making fast chargers suitable for quick top-ups during travel. The chargers are integrated with Ather’s digital ecosystem, allowing users to locate nearby charging points and monitor charging status through the company’s mobile application and dashboard interface.

Industry experts note that the expansion of reliable public charging infrastructure is essential for sustaining long-term growth in the electric two-wheeler segment. By investing in a robust charging network, Ather Energy is not only supporting its existing customers but also making electric scooters a more attractive option for potential buyers.

As competition in the electric two-wheeler market intensifies, infrastructure development is increasingly becoming a key differentiator. With over 5,000 fast-charging points now available, Ather Energy has strengthened its position as one of the leading players driving India’s electric mobility transition.
