Citroën India has officially launched two new SUVs — the Basalt Vision and the C3 Aircross Dark Edition, marking an aggressive expansion of its SUV portfolio. The launch price starts from ₹12.80 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning these vehicles in the hotly contested mid-size SUV market. The company is targeting young urban buyers looking for a mix of style, innovation, and value.
The standout addition is the C3 Aircross Dark Edition, which is based on the existing C3 Aircross but gets an all-black cosmetic upgrade. It features a gloss black grille, black alloy wheels, darkened Citroën badging, and smoked-out headlamps. Inside, the cabin sports an all-black theme with contrast stitching, enhanced seat fabrics, and a revised dashboard layout with a dark finish to complement the exterior.
Meanwhile, the Basalt Vision, a concept-inspired SUV coupe, carries forward Citroën’s modern design language. With sleek coupe-like rooflines, bold wheel arches, and an upright stance, the Basalt is designed to appeal to buyers who want a sportier and premium-looking SUV. While it shares some underpinnings with the C3 Aircross, it promises a more dynamic drive and refined ride quality.
Both models are powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 110 PS and 190 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options. Citroën claims the tuning has been optimized for city and highway driving, offering better mileage and smoother performance.
In terms of features, the Dark Edition SUVs come equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking camera, steering-mounted controls, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear AC vents. While Citroën has focused more on design and comfort, the safety features have been retained from existing models.
The launch of these special editions reflects Citroën’s strategy to localize products while offering premium styling. According to company officials, the Dark Edition series is expected to attract younger buyers who are drawn to bold aesthetics and unique design choices.
Bookings for both the Citroën Basalt and C3 Aircross Dark Edition are now open across the brand’s La Maison dealerships and online platforms. Deliveries are expected to begin later this month.
With competitive pricing, upgraded design, and feature-rich interiors, Citroën is positioning these models to challenge popular rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara in the Indian SUV market.
