EMO Energy to Build More Than 5,000 Fast EV Charging Stations in India by 2027

EMO Energy, a Bengaluru‑based battery technology and charging infrastructure company, has announced a major expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) fast‑charging network in India. The firm plans to scale its network from more than 1,500 chargers at present to over 5,000 stations by the first half of 2027, targeting commercial EV users such as delivery riders and last‑mile logistics fleets. 

Strategic Expansion for Commercial EVs

The expansion aims to address infrastructure gaps in India’s EV ecosystem, particularly for commercial electric two‑wheelers that are increasingly used by e‑commerce and delivery companies. These vehicles often require rapid and dependable charging to maintain high utilisation rates in daily operations. EMO Energy’s infrastructure plans reflect the specific needs of such users, who must recharge frequently and quickly to minimise downtime and maintain productivity. 

EMO’s charging technology is built around its proprietary ZenPac battery system, which supports fast charging up to 80 per cent capacity in about 20 minutes. In addition to full fast charges, the network is designed to support short five‑minute top‑ups so that delivery riders can quickly return to service between trips. Chargers are strategically deployed at high‑traffic corridors and near ‘dark stores’—small local warehouses used for rapid deliveries—to ensure accessibility where it matters most. 

Focus on Last‑Mile Delivery and Logistics

Last‑mile delivery services have become a critical component of India’s e‑commerce and quick‑commerce sectors. These industries depend on electric two‑wheelers to reduce operating costs and manage emissions. However, the lack of fast and scalable charging infrastructure has been a persistent challenge, hindering broader adoption and operational efficiency. EMO Energy’s expansion plans aim to help overcome these barriers by building a network tailored to real‑world usage patterns rather than primarily to private passenger charging. 

According to company co‑founder Sheetanshu Tyagi, seamless and reliable charging infrastructure is essential for scaling commercial EV adoption. He noted that operational needs such as fast turnaround times, predictable charger performance, and high utilisation rates are key to supporting last‑mile fleets and enhancing EV viability. By focusing on these areas, EMO Energy aims to build a charging ecosystem that can keep pace with growing demand. 

Industry Context and Growing Demand

India’s EV market has been expanding rapidly, with increasing sales of electric two‑wheelers and growing interest in electric fleets. Government initiatives and policy support have also encouraged infrastructure development, but gaps in coverage and reliability remain. Expanding public and private charging networks is a key priority for accelerating EV adoption, as reliable access to fast charging reduces range anxiety and improves the economics of electric fleets. 

The expansion of EMO Energy’s network into one of the largest EV charging footprints in India could substantially benefit commercial operators. Quick and accessible charging reduces the time vehicles spend off the road, enabling businesses to operate more efficiently. Over time, this reliability may also help encourage more enterprises to transition to electric vehicles, further supporting India’s clean mobility goals.

If EMO Energy’s plans are realised on schedule, the company’s charging network will play an important role in India’s broader EV infrastructure landscape by 2027. Meeting ambitious targets for network deployment will require continued investment, collaboration with commercial partners, and alignment with broader policy frameworks aimed at boosting EV adoption nationwide.
