Along with its ADAS package, the vehicle will likely come equipped with premium interior features such as a digital driver display, a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, connected car technology, and multiple airbags.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is preparing to introduce the Escudo as its first vehicle equipped with Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. This marks a significant technological leap for the company, which has traditionally focused on affordability, efficiency, and mass-market appeal. With the introduction of the Escudo, Maruti is signaling its entry into the premium technology-driven SUV space.

Level-2 ADAS features offer partial automation and can assist the driver with specific functions while still requiring full driver attention. These include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot detection, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition. The combination of these features enhances both driving comfort and on-road safety, particularly during long highway drives or congested urban commutes.

The Escudo is expected to be based on the Suzuki Vitara platform, which has already seen success in international markets. In its Indian version, the SUV is likely to be rebranded and slightly re-engineered to meet local driving conditions and preferences. Along with its ADAS package, the vehicle will likely come equipped with premium interior features such as a digital driver display, a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, connected car technology, and multiple airbags.

Under the hood, the Escudo could feature a hybrid powertrain or a turbo-petrol engine, aligning with Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Given the rising demand for sustainable mobility solutions in India, a strong hybrid option could make the Escudo a compelling alternative to diesel-powered rivals.

Maruti Suzuki's decision to introduce Level-2 ADAS comes as the Indian automobile industry experiences a shift toward more safety-conscious consumers. Several competitors such as Hyundai, MG, and Honda have already launched models with ADAS in India, particularly in the mid-size and compact SUV segments. The launch of the Escudo is Maruti’s response to this trend and an effort to retain market relevance in a rapidly evolving space.

The company is also planning to manufacture the Escudo at its advanced facility, ensuring it meets both domestic and potential export demands. With increasing awareness about road safety and advanced driving technologies, this launch is expected to resonate well with younger buyers and urban professionals who value intelligent driving features.

While the official launch date is yet to be confirmed, sources suggest the Escudo may be introduced before the end of the current financial year. Pricing is expected to be competitive, positioned just above existing models like the Grand Vitara but below high-end imports, making it accessible to a broader range of buyers seeking premium technology at a practical price point.

With the Escudo, Maruti Suzuki is taking a major step forward in modernizing its vehicle lineup. By offering Level-2 ADAS, the automaker is not only enhancing road safety but also aligning with global trends in automotive innovation, ensuring that Indian customers have access to the latest in car technology.
