The higher-end variants of the E-Vitara are anticipated to come with a larger battery offering an extended range of 500 kilometers or more, along with advanced features such as a panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, larger infotainment display, and fast-charging support.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automobile manufacturer, is planning to equip the base variant of its upcoming all-electric SUV, the E-Vitara, with a smaller battery pack. This move is part of the company’s strategy to diversify its electric vehicle (EV) offerings and cater to a broader customer base by providing more affordable options.

According to sources familiar with the development, the base variant of the E-Vitara will feature a smaller capacity lithium-ion battery compared to the mid and top-end variants. This variant is expected to have a reduced driving range, estimated to be around 300 kilometers per charge, making it suitable for daily urban and suburban commuting needs.

By offering a smaller battery, Maruti Suzuki aims to bring down the overall cost of the entry-level E-Vitara, making it more accessible to first-time EV buyers and budget-conscious consumers. The company believes this strategy could significantly boost EV adoption in the country, where high initial costs remain a barrier.

The E-Vitara is expected to be built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform co-developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The model is likely to feature modern design elements, an aerodynamic silhouette, and a feature-rich cabin, even in its base variant. While some premium features may be limited to the higher trims, safety elements such as ABS, dual airbags, and regenerative braking are expected to be standard across all variants.

The higher-end variants of the E-Vitara are anticipated to come with a larger battery offering an extended range of 500 kilometers or more, along with advanced features such as a panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, larger infotainment display, and fast-charging support.

Industry analysts view this product segmentation as a strategic move in the Indian EV market. By offering multiple range and price options, Maruti Suzuki can compete with both mass-market and premium electric SUVs currently available or expected to launch soon.

The company has not yet officially disclosed pricing or specifications for the E-Vitara, but the base variant with the smaller battery is likely to be priced below Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it competitively against other electric SUVs in the segment, such as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.

Maruti Suzuki is also expected to offer standard AC and optional DC fast-charging capabilities with the E-Vitara. Charging infrastructure support, warranty packages, and after-sales service will be part of the brand's strategy to strengthen its EV ecosystem.

The launch of the E-Vitara is scheduled for early 2025, and it is likely to be produced at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, which is being developed as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing. The company is also exploring the possibility of exporting this model to selected international markets.

As Maruti Suzuki prepares for its EV debut, the introduction of a base variant with a smaller battery shows a clear intention to democratize electric mobility in India, keeping in mind both affordability and practicality for Indian consumers.
