Mercedes Benz India has officially announced that the all electric CLA sedan will be launched in the Indian market in April 2026. This marks the return of the CLA nameplate, which was previously available with internal combustion engines before being phased out in 2020. The upcoming model represents a significant shift, as the CLA will now be offered exclusively as an electric vehicle.
The next generation CLA EV is expected to play a crucial role in Mercedes Benz’s product strategy in India. It will effectively replace the A Class sedan, which has been discontinued, and is also likely to take over from the EQA and EQB electric SUVs. With this move, Mercedes Benz appears to be streamlining its entry level luxury electric offerings while focusing on a sedan format that appeals to urban buyers.
While India specific specifications have not yet been officially revealed, the global version of the Mercedes Benz CLA EV provides a clear indication of what can be expected. Internationally, the CLA EV is offered in two variants, the CLA 250 Plus and the CLA 350. Both versions are powered by an 85 kilowatt hour battery pack, designed to deliver high efficiency and extended driving range.
The CLA 250 Plus features a rear mounted electric motor producing 268 horsepower and 335 Newton metres of torque. According to global test figures, this variant offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 792 kilometres on a single charge, placing it among the longest range electric vehicles in its segment. This variant is expected to appeal to buyers prioritising range and everyday usability.
The higher performance CLA 350 comes with a dual motor setup and all wheel drive capability. It produces a combined output of 349 horsepower and 515 Newton metres of torque, offering quicker acceleration and enhanced traction. This version is likely to target customers looking for a sportier driving experience along with premium electric performance.
In terms of design, the new CLA EV is expected to follow Mercedes Benz’s latest electric design language, featuring a sleek coupe like silhouette, aerodynamic body panels, and a closed grille typical of electric models. The interior is expected to include a large digital display layout, advanced driver assistance systems, and connected car technology, in line with the brand’s latest offerings.
Pricing for the CLA EV in India has not been announced, but it is expected to be positioned competitively within the luxury electric sedan segment. With growing interest in premium electric vehicles in India, the CLA EV is likely to compete with offerings from BMW and upcoming electric models from other global brands.
With the confirmed April 2026 launch timeline, Mercedes Benz is set to strengthen its electric vehicle presence in India and offer buyers a modern, long range luxury electric sedan as part of its expanding EV portfolio.
