MG Motor India has announced yet another price hike for its popular urban electric car, the Comet EV. This marks the third time in 2025 that the automaker has increased the prices of this model. The revised pricing structure comes into effect immediately across all variants available in the Indian market.
The company has cited rising input costs and global supply chain challenges as the primary reasons behind the latest price revision. MG Motor, like many other automotive manufacturers, continues to face inflationary pressures on raw materials, battery components, and logistics. As a result, price corrections have become more frequent to maintain the company’s operational sustainability.
The MG Comet EV, known for its compact size and practicality in city environments, has gained popularity among urban buyers due to its affordable pricing, minimal running costs, and user-friendly features. Even with the price hike, it continues to hold its position as one of the most budget-friendly electric vehicles in India.
The latest price increase ranges between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000, depending on the variant. With this change, the base variant of the MG Comet EV now starts at approximately Rs 6 lakh ex-showroom, while the top-end variant crosses the Rs 7 lakh mark. These prices may vary slightly depending on state-level subsidies and dealer locations.
Despite the higher price tag, MG has retained the feature-rich character of the Comet EV. It includes a dual-screen dashboard with digital instrumentation, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car features, and intelligent voice commands. The car is powered by a 17.3 kWh battery pack, offering a certified driving range of around 230 kilometers on a single charge, which is adequate for daily city commutes.
The Comet EV is designed to be a highly maneuverable and efficient vehicle for congested urban roads. With its compact dimensions, small turning radius, and light steering, it offers excellent convenience for city drivers. It also features multiple drive modes and regenerative braking to further enhance efficiency.
Industry experts believe that the price hikes will not significantly impact demand, as the Comet EV still presents strong value in the entry-level EV segment. With increasing fuel prices and a growing focus on electric mobility, consumer interest in affordable EVs like the Comet remains robust.
MG Motor India has reiterated its commitment to the electric vehicle segment and is working towards expanding its charging infrastructure in collaboration with private and public partners. The company is also planning to bring more EV models to the Indian market in the coming years.
In conclusion, while the third price increase in 2025 may raise concerns among prospective buyers, the MG Comet EV continues to offer compelling value through its technology, ease of use, and lower ownership costs. Buyers are advised to check with local dealerships for the latest price and availability.
