JSW MG Motor India has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of a new fleet oriented version of its popular electric SUV, the MG Windsor EV Commute variant. The new variant is aimed specifically at commercial and fleet operators, offering a more cost effective option compared to the standard model.
The new Commute variant of MG Windsor EV has been priced at ₹13.49 lakh ex showroom, making it approximately ₹60,000 cheaper than the base retail variant, which is priced at ₹14.10 lakh ex showroom. This pricing strategy is designed to attract ride sharing operators, taxi fleets, and business users looking for electric mobility solutions.
In addition to the upfront purchase option, the vehicle is also available under a Battery as a Service model, commonly known as BaaS. Under this scheme, customers can purchase the vehicle without the battery and pay a separate rental fee for battery usage. This reduces the initial purchase cost and makes electric vehicle adoption more accessible for commercial operators.
The MG Windsor EV is part of MG Motor expanding electric vehicle portfolio in India, as the company continues to focus on sustainable mobility solutions. The Commute variant retains the core design and features of the standard model but is optimized for fleet usage in terms of cost efficiency and operational practicality.
Electric vehicles like the Windsor EV are becoming increasingly popular in India due to rising fuel costs and government support for clean energy transportation. Fleet operators are particularly interested in EVs because of lower running costs and reduced maintenance requirements compared to internal combustion engine vehicles.
JSW MG Motor India, a joint venture between JSW Group and MG Motor, has been actively expanding its presence in the Indian EV market. The company is focusing on introducing products that cater to both individual consumers and commercial mobility needs.
The introduction of the Commute variant is expected to strengthen MG position in the growing fleet EV segment, which includes cab aggregators and corporate transportation services. These segments are considered key drivers of electric vehicle adoption in urban areas.
Industry experts believe that pricing strategies like fleet specific variants and battery rental models could accelerate EV adoption in India by lowering entry barriers. This approach also allows businesses to manage operational costs more effectively.
The MG Windsor EV features modern design elements, connected car technology, and electric drivetrain efficiency aimed at urban commuting. While detailed specifications remain similar to the standard variant, the focus of this model is on affordability and fleet utility.
With the launch of the Commute variant, MG continues to strengthen its position in the competitive Indian electric vehicle market, where multiple manufacturers are introducing new models to capture growing demand.
Further updates regarding delivery timelines and fleet partnerships are expected in the coming weeks as the company expands availability across major cities.
