Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled the new Range Rover Sport Electric, bringing a fully electric powertrain to its performance focused luxury SUV family. The new model is the first all electric version of the Range Rover Sport and combines a large battery pack, dual electric motors and all wheel drive with the familiar Range Rover Sport design.
The Range Rover Sport Electric has been developed on JLR’s 800 volt Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture, known as MLA Flex. The same basic architecture is also used by the Range Rover Electric. The Sport Electric, however, has been engineered with a focus on performance and handling while retaining the luxury SUV characteristics associated with the Range Rover brand.
Battery and Range
The new electric SUV uses a 118.5 kWh lithium ion battery pack. Range Rover claims a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 609 km on a full charge.
The 609 km figure is based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure. Actual driving range can vary depending on factors such as speed, weather, road conditions, driving style, passenger and luggage load, tyre condition and use of the air conditioning system.
Range Rover’s official website currently lists an estimated real world range of around 535 km. This distinction is important because the certified WLTP figure and real world driving range are not necessarily the same.
Performance and Power
The Range Rover Sport Electric is equipped with two electric motors and an all wheel drive system. The powertrain produces up to 550 PS and 850 Nm of torque.
The company says the electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 4.5 seconds when Dynamic Launch Mode is used. This acceleration figure is comparable to the claimed performance of the V8 powered Range Rover Sport.
The 850 Nm torque output is also the highest torque figure offered in the Range Rover Sport family so far. JLR says the electric model can build torque significantly faster than the larger Range Rover Electric.
The SUV also uses an Intelligent Torque Management system to control power delivery between the front and rear axles. This is designed to help the vehicle maintain traction across different road and driving conditions.
Charging Technology
The Range Rover Sport Electric supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. Using a compatible high power charger, the battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in a claimed 22 minutes.
Range Rover also says that a 10 minute charging session can add up to 220 km of claimed WLTP range under suitable conditions.
The SUV uses an 800 volt electrical architecture and split charging technology. Charging performance can vary depending on the charger, battery temperature, charging conditions and available electrical power.
The fast charging capability is intended to make the large battery more practical for longer journeys, particularly when the vehicle is connected to a suitably powerful DC charging station.
Chassis and Driving Technology
The electric Range Rover Sport has received several chassis changes to accommodate its battery and electric powertrain.
JLR says the body structure is 61 percent stiffer than the combustion engine Range Rover Sport, while the centre of gravity is 73 mm lower. These changes are intended to improve body control and handling.
The SUV gets air suspension, twin valve dampers and electronic Active Roll Control. It also features all wheel steering and Intelligent Traction Management.
The braking system includes 380 mm ventilated front discs with four piston callipers and 355 mm rear discs. These components are designed to provide the braking performance required for a large luxury SUV with a high output electric powertrain.
Exterior Design
The Range Rover Sport Electric retains much of the familiar design language of the combustion engine model. Rather than adopting a completely different body shape, the electric version has been designed to look recognisably like a Range Rover Sport.
At the front, it features slim LED headlights and an aerodynamic black grille with horizontal elements. The front bumper also includes functional air openings.
The side profile remains familiar, with flush fitting door handles and black exterior detailing. Depending on the version, the SUV can be equipped with alloy wheels measuring up to 22 inches.
At the rear, the electric model continues with the wraparound LED tail lamp design and Range Rover branding. The overall approach keeps the electric SUV visually connected to the existing Range Rover Sport range.
Interior and Features
The cabin of the Range Rover Sport Electric is also closely related to the existing Range Rover Sport. It gets a five seat layout and a dashboard designed around digital displays and connected technology.
The SUV features a 13.1 inch central infotainment touchscreen and a 13.7 inch digital driver display. Both screens receive EV specific information and menus.
Other available equipment includes a wireless smartphone charger, four zone climate control, rear sunblinds and powered, heated and ventilated seats for both the front and rear passengers.
The combination of digital displays, premium materials and comfort equipment is intended to position the Sport Electric as a luxury electric SUV rather than simply an electric performance vehicle.
Variants and Personalisation
Range Rover is offering the Sport Electric in several variants, including Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition.
Customers can also choose additional personalisation options, including a Black Pack and Satin Wrap. The First Edition comes with a specific exterior finish, a contrasting roof and 22 inch alloy wheels.
Higher specification versions can also be customised through Range Rover Bespoke, JLR’s personalisation service.
India Bookings and Expected Availability
India is among the markets where bookings for the Range Rover Sport Electric have opened. The announcement makes the model particularly relevant to the Indian luxury electric vehicle market.
However, the opening of bookings does not mean that customer deliveries have already started. Current reports indicate that the Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to arrive in India in 2027, with Autocar India reporting an expected arrival around March 2027.
The Indian model is expected to be brought in as a fully imported vehicle. An official India ex showroom price has not yet been announced. Current industry estimates place the expected price at around Rs 2.5 crore, although the final price will be confirmed by JLR closer to the launch.
The Range Rover Sport Electric will therefore enter a premium electric SUV segment that includes high performance and long range models from other luxury manufacturers.
The new model expands Range Rover’s electrification strategy while keeping the design, luxury equipment and performance characteristics associated with the Sport name. Its 118.5 kWh battery, 550 PS output, 850 Nm torque and claimed 609 km WLTP range make it a significant addition to the brand’s electric vehicle portfolio.
For Indian buyers, the opening of bookings is the first major step toward the model’s market introduction. However, final India specifications, variant availability, pricing and delivery schedules should be confirmed by JLR before customers make purchase decisions.
